Anyone working on different costumes? Since Halloween is coming up, I've been wanting to make some new stuff. My son Anthony wants a costume for NY comic con, and I recently made my son Adam a pirate style shirt for a ren-faire he went to. Now I've really got the costume bug and I've been just having fun doing alot of sewing the past week. I made myself 2 gypsy style shirts from crinkle gauze, one bright yellow and one white. Also made an 8 panel skirt from contrasting silks... old sari fabric that was given to me. Now I'm making a long pirate vest to go with a coat I have, and a lace up bodice (got those cut out). I just need to buy some interfacing and I can finish the vest. For the bodice, I need to remember what I was doing with it... I had cut it out a couple of years ago but never finished it. Its like a puzzle I have to put together but I lost the directions lol!

I am working on stuff for Karm. He wants a Russian WWII officer's outfit. That is not something I can make but piece together. He also wants grey BDUs and some armor but again that's not something I can make but piece together. I don't know where he gets this idea for costuming at...
As for myself, I am ever working on stuff here and there.

We do have a couple of sites from Russia we get stuff from. Its just waiting for the right pieces to come up and diving time and money to them. I am really hoping to save up for some Jedi armor soon.
Just realized the kid has a lot more costumes than I do... and better pieces

Love the skirt, Leda! My mom and I do all kinds of other costumeing. We've been doing Steampunk stuff lately. We also do other historical costumes. I've heard cosplayer's make armor out of fun foam and then paint it. Steampunk Hat mina086.deviantart.com/#/d5es0un

At Dragon*Con I went to a steampunk ball so I put together a costume from what I had which was a leather bodice and a short crinoline type skirt....and my jedi boots lol. I ended up buying a little pouch with some gear looking thing on it. I want to make a hat/headpiece and a more elaborate alternate-victorian costume. Dianakin, beautiful dress! I have a pattern for a Southern belle dress which I have not attempted yet!

Thank you, it's one of two we have done. I need to get to Dragon con one of these years. A few people from the Steampunk groups I belong to went. Did you see the guy with H G Wells time machine? I met him last year at my first Steampunk event, he pretends to be HG himself. I have a corset, a long skirt, and a few jackets. My mom and I have plans for other things. Simplicity has a few patterns that are Steampunk and we are going to combine things from different ones to make a costume. Up next is a bustle.
I'll have to see if I can get some good pictures. In my deviantart account are a few pictures of other costumes. An Edwardian driving coat, Edwardian hat (both inspired by Downton Abbey and Avonlea) and some jewelery.
Dianakin, nice dress! What else do you make?

I love steampunk. Love the look, love the origins...
I have a "pseudo-steampunk" costume. Striped pants, grey shirt with frilly front (short sleeve), tapestry vest and either my top hat or my bowler and goggles. Gotta have the goggles. Lace up ankle boots or even my jedi boots. I have a brass and leather lightsaber too (not all that well done). Fingerless glove - I have a couple different ones
I have seen a few steampunk Jedi. But I don't like the way most have them hooked up to a backpack for power. Eh...

Those are the patterns I have! We made the skirt from 2172 first out of black satin tafeta. And the corset from that pattern is made from black and purple brocade that has dragons on it. We want to do the bustle and jacket from 1819. I'll have to upload a photo.
That sounds Steampunk enough to me, Jedimom! You can get gears at Hobby Lobby or Jo-annes (scrapbook department only at Jo-Annes) and sew them on the vest or a ribbon and put the ribbon around the hats (make it so you can put it on either hat). I plan on using my Jedi boots with a new costume I'm working on. A saw the lightsaber, I thought it was great. And I love fingerless gloves. I agree, I don't like the backpack for power either.

My costume 'to-do' list is much too big. Lorg of the Rings dress to go with that elven cloak I made, a Hogworts alumni outfit, finish off that Herald vest, a medieval dress .... so many things to do.

Ani, I know the feeling. I want a velvet cloak, Eowyn dress, the black leather corset dress of Padme's, and a few of Lady Marry's dresses from Downton Abbey. Maybe a few other things.

I made an Eowyn dress for my sister several years ago for dragon con. Here's a pic. Also did an over-skirt in brown so she's got variety. I've used the under dress for so many other things too!
