Wonderflex is a plastic that you can heat and bend much easier than ABS. It's also lighter and thinner, but still usable for armor pieces. I've known many a person who's used it for armor parts on their costumes. Also, there's craft foam that can molded and painted to look like metal armor pieces as well. I'll have to find some pictures of the things we've done with craft foam...

Where do you get stuff like sintra and wonderflex? Would a craft store carry it?

Craft foam is pretty handy stuff. Mom and I stuffed it in some purses we made to make them sturdier. And we made a cell phone case out of it once too, but we never got around to covering it.

I thought I'd post my new Steampunk Costume. We took an old bat wing sleeve jacket from the late 80s or earl 90s, took the sleeves off, sewed up the sides, and added the grommets to lace the sleeves on. But we didn't buy enough grommets so it's not finished. We pinned up the skirt and sewed it that way, we'll go back later and make it with ties or elastic on the inside, but we ran out of time before the picnic. The skirt and jacket are a thrift store and yard sale find respectively. Hat is a vintage find we added too.

Thanks, ladies.
Leda, cutting the sleeves off was the only way to taper it to fit. Otherwise it made the sleeves all bunched up and had these huge shoulder pads.
