In light of CV taking place in a hot climate, has anyone ever made a shorter-sleeved outer tunic? I'm not willing to go the Ayla Secura route for a top, but there should be some middle ground-I hope! I was thinking maybe three-quarter length, with less "bell" ends. Another possibility I considered is a vest outer tunic with a lightweight undertunic. Suggestions, comments, good reasons not to go ahead with this project? Thanks.

Im thinking maybe just don't line the sleeves at all, and wear a sleeveless undertunic. A three-quarter sleeve might look nice though, or maybe slit-sleeved, that would be breezy.

I think it could work within the guidelines, as long as the colours are normal, and it looks like a Jedi.

Thanks Leda and Nova! I've purchased tan osnaburg, and am planning a cream or off-white undertunic, and will use my already-approved boots, pants, belt, etc. Slit sleeves sounds interesting.
Is the overlap of the tunic required? I had thought about just having the left front and right front meet in the middle to reduce some of the bulk and heat in the front.
Definitely still in the planning stage, so suggestions are still encouraged! Thanks!

No need for an overlap in my opinion. I'm sure Jedi would have avaried wardrobe for varing degrees of climates. I would.;-)
If you're concerned about bulk, try no under tunic but line the overtunic with a heat wisking fabric. A silk works well for me out here in good ole FL.
Or try the "Heat gear by Under Armour as an Undertunic with the need mods for its neckline. It'll hug close to the body reducing bulk and keep you cool.

I say go for it too.... if it is earth tone...why not.. we know you already have canon tunic sets... so...throwing a little somethig new in the mix is a good way to liven things up a bit..
I do love the idea of a vest outer tunic...
that is a great idea...
I finally.....after about 4 years ...made myself a cheater pair of sleeves to go with a cheater undertunic so that I don't have to wear a full undertunic.. even though my undertunics are all cotton gauze ....it is still another layer...
But the idea of a short sleeved outer tunic is rather a smart idea...

The more I think about the slit sleeves, the more I like the idea. you could do a big slit on the long sleeve just where the seam would be. for photos it would look like a long sleeve tunic, but it would allow the air to flow through.

Fantastic suggestions, all! Keep 'em coming, I'm still planning and designing. It's early enough that I might consider two or three different versions.
I've always wondered about the under armor heat wick-stuff. Might be the right time to try it.

No need for overlap, as I recall the 1st tunic, that i did for another member, had a centerfront closure w/ no overlap. My original long tunic had sleeves on the overtunic that were about 3 inches above the wrist, the people at the Brooklyn museum show from LFM were very complimentary about it. I made that one from a very lt wt. silk noil.

I like the idea of the 'cheater' sleeves, where they just tightly go over the forearms, but look like sleeves at the wrists. With that you could wear a sleeveless half-tunic with the same type of collar as a regular undertunic.

I finished my short sleeved undertunic... and was working on the sleeveless outer tunic ...almost finished...and it occurred to me that I need to make the armholes on the outer tunic much smaller...... the armholes were made for the huge belled sleeves...and not to be used as sleeveless

I can safely say that my arms will never look like that, even with the help of steroids! The female Jedi is a good pattern, though.
Schph, good catch with the larger armholes on the basic tunic pattern. I'll keep that in mind.
