Actually, I'd say the reason Palpatine definitely did not survive, is that there was that bizzare cloud that rushed up the shaft and blew Anakin back from the edge, so my guess is Palpatine hit a power coupling or something similar on the way down and got vaporized...

First of all palpatine did die, his soul was just channeled from the force into the young emperor...

I heard that Mace did survive the lighting blast from Palpatine and the fall out the window, that he did use the Force to slow his decent as most Jedi know how to do, and what I heard was that he did land on a taxi speeder because traffic is heavy on Coruscant, and that he was able to retrieve his lightsaber from the lower depths of Coruscant. However, he did not get his arm fixed with a cybernetic limb, like Luke, because he wanted to be reminded of his failure to see the "shatterpoint" in Anakin's web of the Force. He was able to survive Order 66 and went to live out in the remote sections of the Galaxy, maybe Haruun Kal or something like that, but he was defeated years later by several Dark Jedi, whom he was unable to defend himself against.
I don't know if this is accurate, but I heard this from a friend of mine, who claims he read it somewhere on the internet. Your guess is as good as mine.

i'm sure that is possible, it is rumored that several jedi survived order 66. it was said that kit fisto survived the light saber slash from the emperor, the blade only sliced his chest , but not deep enough to kill him. kit fisto was a light saber master, and healer, so it was possible for him to have maybe survived.

Well where? And if they did I wonder if there will be stories to read on them. I mean Vader did have to go out and hunt jedi down

I think it's safe to say that there were probably several Jedi that survived Order 66, but it was not shown on film (nor is it likely to be). Having rewatched Revenge of the Sith several times on DVD, I'm sure that the reaction shot to Master Yoda, was when Anakin swore himself to Palpatine's teachings, not when Master Windu went flying out the window. (Or when any of the other Jedi were cut down, which he was also sensitive to)

Well, my point on if any jedi survived order 66 is this, if there were no remaining jedi after order 66 was issued, then why would it have been necessary for obi-wan and yoda to shut off the beacon at the jedi temple asking all jedi to return home? That would have been a useless gesture on their part.
Besides, in the new book on Darth Vader that was released not too long ago, it states that a few of the Clone Troopers did not execute order 66 and in fact let their Jedi companions go, because they had grown a type of commaderie or kinship with them because they had been fighting alongside them for so long.
And still, i think Mace did survive the lighting blast by Palpatine and the fall off the balcony. As to what happend to him afterwards, well only Lucas knows that.

i'm sure that is possible, it is rumored that several jedi survived order 66. It wouldn't surprise me that some of the lesser jedi did survived order 66 and just became normal people. you are surprised what people do to live Trayer

That would have been a useless gesture on their part. They weren't shutting off the beacon completely, they were recalibrating it so that the 'Return Home' signal was changed to a 'Stay Away' one.
