I haven't actually seen a female padawan with a braid in her hair (one topic under costuming was discussing what the color bands mean). I was curious if female padawans do wear them and they're just not easily seen or what. Anyone got any ideas?

Females have Padawan braids, but I don't think they have their hair cut as short as the guys. :-) Little girls had them, but so far I hadn't seen the bigger ones. Positive they would.

My understanding is that all padawans have the "locke" to identify them as students, it's partially a safety feature.

They were easy to identify as students, thus, not fully responsible if their actions got them in trouble, it made a call to the Jedi council more likely than serious punishment, at least on lawful worlds. Note, in Jedi Quest (1?) Anakin & Tru hide thier lockes as they go to the lawless part of Coruscant, where the Jedi are not well liked, there the locke would not be protection from the locals.

Got it.
Lock = Just a student, ho ha.
No Lock = Big bad Jedi, ouch time!

Now that isn't fair! My hair has a braid on each temple! Does that mean I'm still a student even though I'm a Knight already?

That depends... are you still learning? A student isn't necessarily a padawan.

ROTFL!! Jencappa, funny.:-)
Braid==Oooo measly paddy baby, GET "EM!!. No braid Oh ho, big bad boy, eh. ok, we'er outta' here.
I have a Padawan braid eventhough I've acheived Knight rank.:-) The braid means one is seeking wisdom and knowledge, since I'm always searching, the braid'll stay. :-) DO youahve a pick of the two braids? It sounds interesting, I like the idea.

No Jauhzmynn my braids are there to symbolize my status as a Warrior. I found an old reference to a civilization that used them to show such status. I wear my braids to warn some off. And my hair is up in a tail anyways. It hangs to mid shoulder blade.
