Yea, Phoenix Textiles has a new shipment of linen, and it's Irish Linen to boot!: store.yahoo.com/phoenixtextiles/fabric-apparel---fashion-fabrics-linen-fabric---linen-blend-fabric-100--linen.htmlMedium weight is the best for Jedi tunics. The lightweight you'll be able to see through just a little, but if you make your under and outer of the same, it should be alright and maybe just a tiny bit cooler. Unfortunately, it is the lightweight that has the most shades of brown and cream. Handkerchief weight has, IMHO, little application for street wear. Great for lingerie, sleepwear, curtains, handkerchiefs, etc.

Wow, the heathered gray and the charcoal worsted wool are beautiful, and 60 in. wide, too. $10 a yard is a fair price. But I'm trying my next robe out in cotton twill.
I like robes I can put in the dryer. Ooooooh, it's so nice taking a Jedi robe fresh out of the dryer and putting it on. ;D

Ask and you shall receive. Phoenix has chocolate brown cotton twill for $4.35/yd. Just discovered it tonight and came back to post the link.... store.yahoo.com/phoenixtextiles/af-052.htmlI do put my wool gabardine robe through both the washer and the dryer.

Thanks much for the link. But it turns out I'd found some fabric on sale at Jo-Ann's Fabrics when I was visiting my aunt last week for $2.50/yd. It was a heavy, gray twill; I guess they were getting rid of their winter weight fabrics. I tossed it in the washer with some brown dye and got a perfect, neutral gray/brown. Since the wonderful, wooly robe I already have is chocolate brown, I wanted a different color. And also a different pattern. It seems that Obi-Wan's robe in Ep II has more pleats in the back than in Ep I. So, I got more fabric and I'm trying it with more pleats. I think that two robes will be enough to keep me happy for awhile.

More fabric finds....I have found the perfect wool for robes.....I ordered swatches and then ordered 10 yards of "demitasse". It is perfect! It is a 80% wool/ 10%nylon blend wool flannelas otherwise, all the 100% wools on this site were really expensive. www.denverfabrics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=18951&Category_Code=wo-bl&Product_Count=41This page has 4 nice brown colors [a href="http://www.denverfabrics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=001&Category_Code=wo-bl&Offset=38&Previous_Stack[1]=20&Previous_Stack[2]=&Previous_Stack_Depth=2"]http://www.denverfabrics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=001&Category_Code=wo-bl&Offset=38&Previous_Stack[1]=20&Previous_Stack[2]=&Previous_Stack_Depth=2[/a] My first robe was a very poor pattern made out of too light cotton. Gave it away. The robe I've worn for several years now is 100% wool gabardine, which is a bit too smooth a finish.

Noooooooooo!! Soooooo, so, so, very tempting. The silk, the wool. I already have the material that I want to use for a floor length Jedi tunic and those fabric links would work so well for undertunic and robe. But I just can't deal with new fabric until I get back from Scotland. I'm going to save the links and cross my fingers that they'll still be available in a month.
I'm partial to the coffee liqueur brown color for a robe.

see... now if I had the faintest idea what to do with the fabric this would all be soooo much more interesting... I'll probably need to save up some $$$ and find someone to do the "needle-work" for me.

I'll share my favorite fabric web site. They often sell off entire bolts for a great price. I get a lot of wool and wool blends from them: Trim FabricWith this and the crinkle cotton from Wal-Mart (which I've dyed and used for a lot of outer tunics), I can get outfits for my friends at a reasonable price. Denver Fabric also has a good online selection and price.

fabric.com has MORE 100% Irish linen, at $7.65yd www.fabric.com/apparel-fashion-fabric-just-arrived-fashion-fabric-100-linen-fabric.aspxThere are lots of shades of tan, cream and brown. Stay away from handkerchief weight for costumes unless you want a very lightweight and almost see through undertunic. I have some of this from offerings past and it is wonderful. You can wash it (be sure you wash it before cutting) and it will wear like iron.
