While searching for something else, I found the following: Here's an nice dark brown wool at a good price: www.fashionfabricsclub.com/home/catalog_itemdetail.cfm?ItmID=A942Dark Brown Light Weight Wool Flannel Fabric Suitable for Blouses and Dresses 100% Wool Fabric 62" Wide Hand Wash Cold or Dry Clean Usually $25.00/yd. $6.00/yd I think many people here already know about Dharma Trading, but I'll restate the obvious: Dharma Trading has raw silk (silk noil), suitable for 'traditional' Jedi tunics, for $2.45/yd or 2.09/yd for an 11 yard bolt. Scroll down: www.dharmatrading.com/silk_fabrics.htmlI have a fabric swatch and it is a nice, off-white/cream color.

That's the stuff I use that(Dhrama's raw silk) for tunics too. VERY nice stuff. I do have a suggestion, line the sleeves with some of Dharma's thin silk lining or the sleeves will leave silk pellets on the under tunic sleeves.:-D
I use two layers doubled over for Obis and tabbords so they have the right thickness.

I no longer remember where I got the fabric for my garb. It may have been fabricstore.com as they sell a lot of linen. But it is 100% linen in a medium weight.
I did just buy some linen/rayon blend (not at Phoenix) and it is wonderful fabric. Linen/cotton is fine as is Linen/raime
What some fabric stores call "linen" is actually polyester, and it IS horrible. You really have to read the label.

Schph, Dupioni is really beautiful, but not really a good idea for a Jedi, it's fairly stiff and has a bit of a sheen, kind of like a nubby satin, and it's not the most durable of the silks, though I love it for period or evening & bridal gowns. I think what you're looking for is the Silk Noile, kind if a linen weave in silk, and it's washable as well, unlike dupioni. Noile is usually in the un-dyed, un-bleached natural colour, and it takes dye very well after it's been washed a couple of times, although, dying should be done before cutting for best results.

RE the dark brown wool: I'm a little concerned about what looks like a pattern in the weave. If it is there, I don't think it would necessarily be the most appropriate for a Jedi robe.

Kai, I've been meaning to ask you and Nova about the fabric edges: If I can't get access to a serger, are pinking shears even close to the same effect? Also, which fabric, linen or silk, would do better without a serger? I'm planning on lining my tunic with something very lightweight, too. I'm going to keep asking around for a serger, though. Thanks, Laan
