Does anyone know how to make tabbards, heres my idea, im not making a tradition jedi robe, its more like a off-white civil war jacket, and the tabbards are going to go on top of the buttons, but IDK what material to use or how to make them, could anyone explain?

What fabric is the tunic? I usually use the same fabric as my tunic, it should be lined, and if lightweight, possibly interlined. They are usually straight, though sometimes curved strips, mine are usually about 5 inches wide. Hope that helps.

Some of that depends on the size of the wearer, and the length of the tunic. But I usually make mine so that they finish at about 5 inches wide and finish from just above the knee to almost even with the hem of a long tunic. Obi should be at about 1 inch wider on either side of the belt (2inches total)but can vary to a little wider. I've never really used a pattern fo them, I just cut from measurements, finished width + seam allowance = total width X Length + seam allowance = total length. That works for straight ones, if you're doing joined at the shoulder with flare, it's more complex but not hard. For an Anakin style tabbard, check the Sons of the Sun site.

Some do, but there is a huge variety of it out there. Some look like plastic or shiny patent leather. There are some nice faux suedes as well, that are softer and hang well, some pleathers are good to look at, but very stiff, and some you need to be very careful when stiching, as any mistaken stich removed will leave a pinhole.

oh i see thank you, i ended up buying some light brown pleather, its a little thin though, so im probably just going to double it so it will be thicker and i wont have to see that nasty looking inside

You can double it,. or use a fabric in a close colour to line it.

I look forward to seeing them over the tunic, what are you going to make your obi from, the pleather or the tunic fabric?
