Need a lightsaber until you can build your own? Then go to Parksabers. I bought the Defiance saber with the Defiance style belt, and have a blue blade. The style is based upon the Lightsaber that "Ben" Kenobi gave to Luke after rescuing him from the Sandpeople in New Hope, EP4. You can see it better in Empire Srtikes back when Luke is hanging from the cave ceiling in the Wampa's Cave and the Lightsaber is in the snow. I found the Parksaber blade is very sturdy. When I ordered my saber I was told that the blade is strong enough to dent a steel cabinet, and that the local martial arts use them for heated practice. The blade rests a few inches into the aluminum hilt, and is 1/4" thick polycarbonate platic (this is the plastic that safety eyewear is made from). I tested my Parksaber on a cardboard box, and beat the Poo-Doo out of it. The blade IS firmly in the hilt, is tough, and flexes a bit so that it takes/give the force of a hit. Beating up the blade also doesn't displace the Electo Luminescent (EL) strip within the blade, either. I can show the blade to whomever shows at I-Con 22 at SUNY Stony Brook on March 29th when I will be attending.

Saber dueling is a scary prospect. Lots of Jedi out there are eager to go at each other and they play around without experience. Please be cautious, and if one is available, please seek a stage combat teacher in your area. And if you want to spar as a Jedi, do yourself a favor and throw on some protective Kendo gear. Bad story time: A buddy of mine is Uber into Star Wars and about a year and a half ago bought himself a Parks. I began teaching him stage combat, and pushed all the safety issues I can. Everything must be choreographed, carefully. Never, ever improvise, and so on. Well, he chose to spar with a pal and pal zigged when he should have zagged. My buddy now has himself a glass eye, and if I can get his buns in gear he'll join me for CIII. So I'm begging everyone to research, study, and be uber cautious...even the simplest and most benign "sparring" can lead to a terrible disaster. Dale Girard has a book out called Actors on Guard. It is ISBN # 0878300589 and it's published by Routledge/Theatre Arts Books. It reads a bit like a texbook, and its focus is rapier and dagger on stage, but it is a phenomenal reference. Another book to check out is by the master of all that is stage combat, J Allen Suddeth. It's called Fight Directing for the Theatre and its ISBN # is 043508674X. Another indispensible stage fight book, which has humorous stories, cartoons, and horror stories (one of which similar to my friend's above), and all the safety info you want. J Allen is THE man for fight info. Another handy book that might be out of print by now is called Combat Mime by JD Martinez. Its ISBN is 0882298097 and it's a Nelson Hall book. It's diagrams tons of stage violence aspects from punches to falls to faints to kicks and so on. A very VERY good book if you can find it. Thanks for listening to my fearful rant...and I hope the info helps you guys keep your parts intact. Fight well, fight safe! -Ken

I've got the saber dueling down pat I just can't build my own. A tip for training is to use old wood mop sticks.

too true...lol... got whalloped in the butt by an over enthusiastic person in an overcrowded room during a training class.... had to do a little "jedi healing" on that one!

Tell your buddy not to despair. I have a glass eye too, but not from lightsabre combat (except my character did). I had cancer as an infant. But I am very cautious when it comes to swinging things around the face. My son has had to go to the ophthalmalogist three times in the past 2 years for getting sticks in the eye. And he still hasn't seemed to learned, so this spring I will be getting some goggles when we start doing our lightsaber practice.

Safety goggles or a good fencing mask r an excellent idea. I usually just do the plastic saber thing, tho' it's possible to do damage with one of them too!

They are cheaper on the page, but I do believe they include shipping charges in that figure.
On the Parks site (www.parksabers.com) they list the price and note that it includes all shipping charges as well.
It is likely that you'll save $10 on the purchase of the unit, but it will also be likely that you'll pay that to ship it from buystarwarsstuff...
You're best off going direct to Parks. That also insures you'll get all the warranty coverage and so forth.
Happy hunting...

Heads up!! www.parksabers.com sells some lightsaber parts and for $100.00 you can buy a kit to make one yourself. I agree! Instead of going to a middleman, go to the source. If you want a Parksaber, go to Parksabers. If it helps you go to their website and read his warranty terms. Basically, if you don't like ot he'll take it back. If it breaks, he'll fix/replace it.

HEy guys thanks! I guess I didn't read the fine print. It does say that the shipping is included. I would have lost $5 if it weren't for you guys . The warenty is also important, so I will definetly order from parksabers web site. Shipping should be faster too, since there is no middle man.

Ok....I have only one more question....I promise. About how long does it take a park saber to ship to someone in the U.S.? It says +12 weeks, but I don't think I can wait that long . If any one can tell me how long theirs took to ship I would be very thankfull.

Truthfully? It took a total of 10 weeks for me to get my order completed. 4 weeks for the Lightsaber hilt and blade to arrive and 6 weeks later I got my Jedi Belt. I will point out that I got the simplest design that Master Parks (he's a Jedi, too) crafts, the Defiance, and the Defiance Belt. Also, it was before the Holiday Season and after the initial rush that Master Parks had from the release of AOTC in May. Mistress Parks mentioned that they are bogged down by orders and that all Lightsabers are handmade, and tht they have had to take on more apprentice Lightsaber Crafters. Therefore the warning that it will take around 12 weeks. I'd say that I placed the order at the right time... Even though it may take 12 weeks to get your Lightsaber, it is well worth the wait!

This is not meant to steer away Parks business...only to show you all the options. Another dynamite saber crafter is www.lightechindustries.comMy girlfriend just surprised me with their Viper Defender...WOW!!! They are a tad more expensive, but they ship swifter, and their designs are a hair closer to the real deal (which is entirely my opinion). Either way...you can't miss...both crafters are top notch in saber work!!
