I've seen a lot of the purse-made pouches. Many of them turned out good. Make sure you get the same models so all your pouches look the same.

Camera bags work. I was looking into those too when I found great pouches at ICon.
I've seen the "I've take apart a purse and made a belt." idea, and it totally work! Go for it.

I found some pommel bags at my local tack store, unfinished for about $16. I can cut them apart and dye them myself. However, they are 6"x6". Do you think that is too big for belt pouches?

6x6? Nah, I think that's ok... depends on what you need to put in them. I still don't have a pouch that my camera will fit in. Also, I think the one that Xana has is 4 wide 6 tall. Obi-Wan has a short wide one that looks like it could be six inches. Here outside the Coruscant nightclub: www.geocities.com/galaxygal_117/pics/aotc8.jpgAlso depends on how comfortable that size is for you... you just have to put it on your belt and wear it for a while!

Then again, you could always resize it when you cut it apart to dye it. You could trim it down a bit. How deep are they?

Not too deep. In other words, I dunno. Let's see if I can find a pic of them...

The biggest pouch I make is approx 4" tall, 5" wide, and 2.25" deep - some say it is a huge pouch - to me it is functional.
Those look like they are a saddle bag type thing - I assume when you said cut them apart you mean take that middle section off and make 2 seperate pouches. The reason I ask is that there looks to be enough in the middle to make you a smaller pouch if you wanted to. Also consider that you will need some belt loops or something to attach the pouches to your belt so the extra leather will be handy.

Yeah, they are pommel bags, what you would throw over the horn of a western saddle.
I will cut them apart down closer to the pouch itself so as to make it more "square" I guess and not have any extraneous flaps.
Didn't think about using the extra for another pouch. May use it to "hide" the ties on my belt (my belt ties with leather thongs, does not buckle, and I wear it backwards)
I was planning on getting some cell phone clips to attach it, but I don't know for sure how to get them to stick to the leather

You could pop rivit then buttons to the leather, using a large washer.

I think I may have posted this before... If you don't mind a little work, you can purchase a kit from www.leatherfactory.com. Search for NT BELT BAG KIT (#46040-00). The bags are 5x5x1-1/2. I used the same company for most of my belt supplies. I had a local branch, so I was able to look at the stuff first. I liked the idea of being able to dye my belt and bags the same color. The seams of the bags have a sinew stiching, so they aren't as smooth as commercially made bags, but they are sturdy and hold up well. I used 2 full size bags. I guess you could cut it smaller if you like working with leather. I've found it to be fun. The dye stains easily.

I may get that if I don't think the pommel bags will work once I get them.

They look good... not too deep. I have one that is about 2 and a half inches and it's a bit annoying because it sticks out too far for my taste. Its small though, or else it would drive me nuts and I wouldn't use it. I have two pouches on my belt, as well as a cellphone case, lightsaber clip, and set of 4 food capsules... and that's about all I can handle!
But Dave is right... you can use that extra leather to make a strap to attatch to the belt... It's surprising how much you actually need for that!

does anyone know the dimensions of the resin ep. 1 and 2 replica pouches that a few online merchants sell?
i know there's a big medium and small, but what are the measurements....approximately? exactly?
