I think we as adults get the whitty humor more then the kids.. they see Qui-gon grabbing Jar-jars tounge and laugh. we see that and the slight threat behind it..

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace alien Jar Jar Binks has been voted the most annoying film character of all time. In a poll of 5,000 movie fans by UK website LoveFilm.com, the computer generated Binks beat out competition from Andie MacDowell's character, Carrie, in Four Weddings And A Funeral. Third most irritating is Rowan Atkinson's Bean, followed in fourth place by Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura: Pet Detective character. In fifth place is Ben Stiller's White Goodman in Dodgeball."

I'm a 2.5. He was funny as a comic relief. Plus, not every alien can be just strange looking...some have to have weird personalities I'm just glad he had a smaller role in II & III Jenny

i think it is the annoying thing that makes them want to kill him. my aunt on the other hand didnt like him cause she thought it was racist....making him seem like the typical ebonic speaking black person, so it made her angry that lucas was being racist.

I watched TPM again yesterday with my younger brothers who were six and five years old. I noticed that when Jar Jar came into the scene they hardly had any idea what he was saying. They asked me constantly what he said and it really kind of knocked a chunk of plot out for them. Before they know it Qui-gon and Obi-wan are jumping in the water going somewhere totally random to the kids! I kind of found that a bit annoying in a point of view that yes he may have been created to entertain kids a bit but I find it a large drawback if the kids can't understand him. At least my younger siblings.

Jar-Jar is just comic relief. I couldn't possibly get mad at him, even for the thing he did in II. It's not his fault he's weak-minded. But think about it; without him, where would the story be? Try editing him out and see how confused you get.

I originally thought he was annoying. Then I realized each of the prequel episodes had a specific theme....
Episode I was clearly aimed @ younger kids. Everything in the first episode was CUTE and awe-inspiring.
Episode II was clearly aimed @ teenagers. It was a swashbuckling romp, w/ plenty of really cool battles.
Episode III was clearly aimed @ adults. It was dark and foreboding, w/ everything centering on his impending doom.
JarJar was meant to simply facilitate the PG fantasy world of EpI. And, yes, he was funny. Perhaps he did have too much screen time, but, like I said, I think EpI was meant to be a rollercoaster ride for the PG crowd; not the PG-13 crowd, PG. I'm in Category 2, I believe. And the tongue thing was hilarous; very dry, as befitting a Jedi Master of Qui-Gon's demeanor.
Maybe I have no right to call myself a Jedi if I ask this, but...JarJar was in EpIII?

Jar Jar was in very briefly when Anakin first met with Palpatine as soon as he returned to Coruscant and Padme was waiting fir him in the wings. It was in this scene Jar Jar muttered his only line in Ep. 3 "Excuse me." I believe he was also in Padme's funeral procession briefly
