Too bad the Chiss couldn't have become Rebel allies!
The Chiss are very structures...that is where Thrawn gets his very 'high class' from...I just thought it was him in the Thrawn trilogy...but OBF showed me it's all the Chiss society...very polite and elegant!

I really didn't like that captain from the ship in the first part - the one obsessed with the treasure. couldn't he have just stayed? or was he that anti-chiss that he couldn't care less the thinks he could learn from them?

yet he was rather independent but at least this shows him how he started out at the beginning before becoming an admiral

Maris had her own way of looking at things. She didn't seem as mercenary as the cap of their ship the caught by the Chiss

on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best book i've ever read...i'd say that OBF hits in at 4 or 5...let's face it...it's not Shakespeare or Vonnegut. As a star wars EU book though i'd say it ranks at 6.
I thought too much of the book was set up for the acutal mission. Maybe a duology would have served better.
I thought zahn portrayed C'Boath as a dark jedi...which he supposedly wasn't...his twisted clone was a dark side user...not the real guy, right?
I didnt have a problem with obi or anakin being here, just have to accept the fact that they're not the stars. C'Boath's padawan was pretty cool. meeting her brother thing was interesting....i'd like to see more jedi confront their family or homeworld in some way. (windu in shatterpoint, for example) It's a big galaxy, but not that big...not terribly hard for a Nautolan jedi (kit fisto) to find out where he's from, etc.
Thrawn was the shining redemption of this book....as he always is. I think zahn does an excellent job of "setting the reader up" to fall for Thrawn's plots as well. Anyone have a good description of his uniform in the book? As much as Zahn's trilogy from the early 1990's is known as the "thrawn trilogy" ,this book should really be subtitled "thrawn prequel"
