I find that a good pair of appropriately color sweats can go a long way. My robes are long so my legs hardly show any except for my boots. At the last event I went to I wore cargo pants that matched my inner tunic nicely. I kinda liked the look

Y'know most of us just buy our pants off the rack since they're so ordinary looking. That's very handy.

I was in Wal-Mart this afternoon and stumbled upon something that may be of interest to the ladies -- cotton stretch "leggings" by White Stag for under $15. They are not knit; they are cotton twill, more like fitted riding pants, and full length and narrow at the ankle for stuffing into boots. No zipper, no pockets , flat front with 2 darts, and an elastic back. They come up to the waist instead of the lower waist common to many khakis and chinos. They also come in "petite". Unfortunately they only come in tan or black, but perhaps the tan could be dyed to another shade if desired. I thought the look was nice and neat and might be a good option for someone.

Hmmmm, sounds interesting, though no pockets is a disadvantage. Tan would work fine. Were they in the socks and underwear section?
I wonder what is the real difference between 'leggings' and 'tights'?

No pockets -- I know -- disadvantage. I'll have to carry my keys in my pouch. I don't carry money in my pants pocket anymore after a mishap -- I have a pocket in my obi instead. They were in the regular ("misses" not "women") clothing department with the other pants and tops. In my mind, I wouldn't call them "leggings" b/c I think of the knit pants very much like tights. But they are more closely fitted than regular pants -- a lot like riding pants that aren't jodhpurs. Actually they are very comfy and move well for enough for a saber duel, I think. I'm wearing them this afternoon as I work at my desk -- and trying to break in my boots for extended wear at Dragon*Con. They stay "tucked in" much better than the crops I usually wear. Update: This price is about 50 cents off, but I think these are the pants: [ftp]http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5935070[/ftp]

This is what I wear! I have the long ones and the capris... the capris are easy to tuck into the boot tops. And not having pockets is good because it lays nice and flat. I'm wearing the long ones in this pic: www.thejediassembly.com/members/a4ea0.cstm.jpg

They are extremely comfortable. I found that they look better when you buy a size larger than you actually need. This way they have the look of the wrinkles in the leg, and they are not tight at all. ... and if you happen to gain a bit of weight (like I did since that pic was taken) ... they still fit!

Thanks, Kryy... I did. I just did nothing basically, while everyone else went galavanting, I relaxed... (not that that will help me fit back into my pants.... )

Yeah, I had great intentions to lose 10 lbs before D*C... oh well... maybe 5 will help. Sometimes relaxing is the best vacation of all. When we had the family beach house (which they sold in March ), I used to consider a week there like hitting my "reset" button. All we did was go to the beach, go for long walks or bike rides, and sit on the big screened porch and rock. It was heaven.... [Back to topic] I also saw the Wal-Mart pants in white but they didn't have my size (I guess it's end-of-summer stock). I'm going to stop at a different Wal-Mart on the way home and see if I can find a pair to dye a cream-color to go with my in-process brownish tunic ... sort of a "Mace" color scheme with the brown boots and belt.

Try K-Mart or Target for these pants also, or similar ones. I think I got my first pair of these at K-Mart.
