What method do you like? To secure your belt closed?
Snaps? Velcro? Other?

If you use snaps, you need to make sure your belt is going to be tight enough over your costume pieces so that your belt won't sag where your lightsaber hangs. If I used snaps, I'd use probably 4 of them, with and extra set of 2 snaps, for adjustabilty.
Many women, and it's true for me, don't always keep a consistant weight, so some of us need our belts to be adjustable.
I use industrial Velcro since I do like my belt to be somewhat adjustable and don't think I'd like the buckle method, seems too bulky, to me.
The only problem I have with it is that the adhesive doesn't like to stick well to leather, especially on the back of the belt, so I put a heavy duty staple in each corner, cut the ends short and bend them over.
I don't do the big keeper in the back, but I have a pouch that goes over the spot where the ends of the belt overlap.
The Velcro itself I've never had trouble with, it has always been strong enough to hold my lightsaber and all the gear I carry in my pouches, several pounds worth, all together. And also, sometimes, my lightdagger behind my right hip. Not really the best place for it to be drawn, since it's meant to be used in my left hand, but that's the best place that it fits on my belt, since I need my pouches in specific places.

I've made belts with both velcro and snaps. The velcro seems to work great for kids who are still growing. The snaps are a pain to set but look better.
I have experimented with the side-release buckles, but I found it to be uncomfortable as compared to a snap closure. -Karma

I use a buckle w/ a tongue, it's hidden under my pouches, I can adjust for about a 6 inch difference. I've lost a bit of weight lately, so I will need another couple of inches to adjust, but I might just make a belt that is less individualistic in style & do one that is closer to canon, and make it a little smaller than the other one. Mine is very wide, about 4 inches, but now that it's broken in, I find it very comfortable, but a slightly narrower one would be good to have as well.

I like using velcro. I never thought o stapiling the velco. That's a good idea! I have been sewing it on to keep it in place which works well also.

Yes, I use the slide buckle because I want it to hold well and I want it to be adjustable.

Wow, Nova, a 4 inch belt? That's wide!
My first two were 2 1/2". My latest one I decided to make to more "feminine" proportions and is 2" wide. And the Velcro is still strong enough to hold my gear, even with a little less surface area to grip to itself. ;D

I prefer buckles, so the belt can be adjustable, for both the wide and the narrow belt over it. 2 inches is as wide as I ever want to go; I'm not too tall, I have a long waist and I don't need it to look any longer.

Snaps for me. Unfortunately I did not have the foresight to have several rows put in and my belt was permanently set at one size. Recently I purchased a new tunic, undershirt, and obi made of a thicker material than my last set of robes. That combined with an unwanted gain in weight ( ) forced me to have a spacer made with some additional snaps.
