This is what I use: I bought the second one from the left, the 4 ft package because I use it for lots of things, but they also come in smaller quantities. This is industrial strength velcro and it holds up much better than the kind I was using before. It sticks very well... hasn't peeled off yet, and it's been through CIII! I picked it up at Office Depot, but check the velcro website www.velcro.com/consumer/products_is.htm for more info.

I bought mine at Lowe's, so other hardware stores probably have it as well.

Well I got my belt done and I went with snaps - I set up for an expansion of 3 inches and reduction of 1 inch - more likely I'll gain weight...

Jedi Wannabe,
I have some industrial velcro you can have if you'd like. I don't use it for my belt and since it has the sticky glue on the backside, I can't use it to secure my Obis. Send me a PM please with your snail mail addy, and I'll gladly send it to you. It's jsut like the stuff Leda showed in the picture. It's VERY good stuff. Lemme put it this way, I use some to keep the cat's water dish down on the floor, since he likes to tip it over. So far, he can't tip it.:-D
My belt securing, uses snaps. My next one won't. Nor even velcro. For kicks I want to make this like the ones I'd read of in the jedi Apprentice novels. It appears the leather was wrapped ian way so the tension of the two bands kept the belt around the wearer. The buckle actually had a function. Adusting the belt size was done by tugging the leather peices of the narrow band beside the buckle.(they aren't rivited down, but are held by small keepers) I might not be doing a good job of building a clear image of what I see in my hands right now, but it really does work. This thing's not coming off no matter what unless i remove it.

I have just begun to learn leatherworking. My current belt that was made by a leatherworker is fully adjustable by using the small inner piece of leather and the larger outer belt has no closure but is held in place by a leather sleeve...where this system works...and is unbelievable adjustable...the adjustment doesn't "stay" and with full pouches and lightsaber hanging...in a couple hours the belt sags.
The belt that I plan to make will have 3 sets of 2 snaps on the larger belt to aid in being more adjustable because I too am all over the place with weight...up..down...etc...my belt will end up as adjustable as I can make it.......functionality, for me, is more key than anything else.

Ahh that's it. It's how mine's done. A better way to describe it too. The snap for extra securing sounds like a good idea Shcph. I'll defiantly keep that in mind when I tweek the belt.

I was reading through this last night and had an Idea. (I know, ut oh) but, I wondered if it would work. Put the row of snaps, or, holes and a knob post, on the SMALL center belt in the back, and let the larger belt just sinch it self up in the back. With a large belt keeper in the back, it shouldnt slip under weight. Ive been thinking of a way to make the center strap functional, that seemed the best, plus it might make for a cleaner belt, and less things poking you in the back. After all, i cant believe the center strap would be there just for decoration on a jedi item IRL.

Well, I finally finished my darn belt. I did do the button head/hole bit mentioned above ^.
(found out I Wasn't the first to think about this method, found it mentioned in an old thread here.)
The way I did it gives me 1 inch to tighten (but can always add more holes if it needs to be smaller), and 3 inches to loosen the belt up. The buckle works and the small belt moves enough to get the belt off by stepping out of it. You would have to open the big belt keeper and un-do the buttons to open it up all the way.
Its been driving me nuts for the past 3 days, trying to figure out how to do it right, engineering it, and, trying to make it work without cutting first, ive been soo afraid I'd cut it to short and mess myself up before it was finished. Velcro would have been WAY easier, but, I'm glad I tried something different.
Sorry I dont have pics yet, I might be able to get some up the beginning of the week for you all. I need a few for my records too.

Speaking of functionality, did you know the movies belts are done by velcrroing the wide belt but the accent belt is one piece going all the way around? The large belt keeper is actually attached to to one side of the belt to and they slide the belts through. pretty interesting, bit would take forever to get off and on

seems odd they would do it that way - when I first tried my belt on - I had nothing holding the small belt on other than the buckle and the studs to keep it lined up - worked for me...
