Wow....sounds like your Joanne's has a much better selection than mine...I actually asked them one time if the osnaberg came in a darker color and they said no... Dragon Con.... I wish I could go.... But things are starting to come together for our "Assembly of the Assembly" next year....and I will have to take delight in that... Raw silk.....hmmmm....sounds yummy.... I am headed back to Joanne's on Sunday...i have a 50% off coupon.......gonna purchase the osnaberg for the final set of Jedi garb...don't know when I will get to it...but I will be ready..... My friend has a serger and serged the fabric for the taupe one I am working on...and boy...does that make a difference when putting the tunic together....goes together really nice....

me again lol,
i use the brother sewing machine, single thread........it serves the purpose for now........ lol
also bought some grey cotton material yesterday, 9 yards, for 9 dollars, wal-mart cheap bin, lol
any ways plan on tunic number 4, saw the drawing of the costume i want to do now on the star wars artist guild site............i plan to go just a grey tunic, deep blue undertunic...... not the traditional shoulder tabards(shoulder stoles), just some oliptical peices to just cover the shoulders, and trim the outer tunic in a black band, just for hestetics only no dark side stuff here, may go with a darker kaki pants, and pro made boots, as for the dream jedi tunic,(mace's tunics, anakin's stoles(longer than anakin's tho), may just go with a pair of kaki pants from men's department , lol, for this one also.)just needs to send my pix to you guys, of the two costumes i have so far and the props i made, think i'll go to home page and go from there, but for the future costume, may have to put it on hold for right now........

Als-Da.....
Do you have a pattern to follow at all?
There are a couple of patterns available that would make your project a whole lot easier....
I can recommend a good one if you don't have a pattern.
And right now Joanne's fabrics is havin a sale on linen and linen "look-alike" fabric ....one in particular looks like a good choice...do you have a Joanne's near you?
I could try to do a tunic for you...put together the basic and then have you hem the sleeves to your length and the tunic to your length...I found I am not too good at trying to custom fit when someone does not live nearby to try it on....
right Eqin?
Plan on going to the "Assembly of the Assembly"? We could have you in a tunic and tabbard by CIII by starting a set...and fitting it to you at "The Assembly"...

yes i have been using the simplicity pattern, 5840, along with other simplicity patterns to mix and match, but nothing(i mean sewing is bad, i get the colors and or materials i want, but bam messes it up), thanx for the offer, on the tunic job, i appreciates it, but i may try one more time, but i'm not promising myself anything, angain thanx for the offer, no joannes, we have a fabric world couple towns over from me, they have cheap material, also i find good material at wal-mart, it's just me , lol, but i truly do appreciate the offersif i do ask this of you, what would you charge me to do a tunic to fit me, i'm no little man by any means, here's a sample of my sizes 56 1/2 inch chest, 44 inch waist, i have been using the robe sleeves with the pattern above for my tunic sleeves, i found they are the right size and length i stand 6 feet 2 inches tall, i guess we could private message the details if you would to......... i really would appreciate any help, but i will try once more......first :)i'm like wow, flabberghasted at your offer..........again wow !

No problemo...we will get you clothed! Let me know how your current attempt comes out.... 5840 is a tough pattern around the neck...I am in the process of making another one from that pattern even as we speak. I love the rest of that pattern...but the neck band is something I don't care for. My next and final tunic set I am going to try to combine the body of that pattern with the neck band of my original McCalls pattern....should be interesting... Sent you a pm with my address and some other stuff.... we will have you properly clothed...don't worry! I will get more measurements if your current effort doesn't pan out..... edit.....5840 is the pattern I used for the one I sent Eqin...since I never have seen a picture of it... I don't know that he liked it or ever hemmed it. I personally didn't care for the drop sleeve on that pattern...so I would use my pattern...

Remind me that we should do a workshop on pattern alterations at the Assembly! As well as the one on drafting them. Schph, when you cut the neckband, do you cut it straight on the grain, or on the bias? I haven't opened that pattern, I'll have to take a look at it when I get home.

As a matter of fact Nova...I am sending you a pm....
I already have altered my original McCall's pattern without actually cutting apart the pattern....there was just so much to alter on that...the sleeves weren't as full as I would like and I felt it was a little short...so that there just started to be too much altering...so that is why I am going to try to marry two patterns together.
But also, I have been tearing my hair out and have made several attempts at doing the slightly curved thingy with the tabbards..so they lay properly ..on paper of course....I can't seem to get the curve right.....
So....can you trace me a pattern of the curve of your tabbards?
check your pm's...

the only tru part i can seem to do right is the sleeves, i, tried to use the outer sleeves to the tunic sleeves from 5840, for some reason they are the right length and desired overall shape, but as for the neck, and other wise tunic, those are my nemessia, and that's my main problenm...............(lol, that's 99.99999% of the problem, lol.) and thanx again schph,i'll try again this weekend on the tunic, buti'm not promising myself anything, lol, so be expecteing a package in the mail from me....i will let you know for certain on that last statement, gots to keep a trying, but as yoda says, do or do not, there is no try...........!but anyways, thanx again for the offer schph i realy appreciates it........

.....and I decided to try something that I have been putting off....
I am trying to do the sash that is outlined at Amber's Jedi Meditation Chamber.....I spent a couple hours on it last night....making the pattern....then cutting and got it all sewed up .....decided it was too wide....so I had to rip all the seams again....grrrrrrrrrr.....but at least I have the pattern done....and I will try to re-sew it with wider seams to make the whole thing narrower....I think it will work out when I am done.....
....just trying to pick up more sewing experience....
;D

Schph, got the PM and sent you a reply. No problem to do that. If the neckband on that pattern is similar to a kimono border, try cutting on the bias, it will help the fabric to curve as you do the neck. There are instuctions somewhere on the sewing threads for cutting bias. then pin and baste. Most sewing problems will straighten out with practice. Als-Da, I would NEVER argue with Master Yoda, BUT, on the subject of SEWING it is TRY and TRY and KEEP ON TRYING, UNTIL YOU CAN DO!!!!!!! As I always say, when it comes to sewing, PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!!!!
