I live in Western Wa home of the rusted people. They say it rains here so much that we rust. It gets pretty cold in the winter below 30 and usually it is cool in the Am gets hot at about 4 pm then gets really cool in the pm agin like aroud 40 or 50 this late summer. I have a Singer Merritt Lock machine with Diferintual feed. I havent used it yet, I've had it for a year, but am deffinatly going to take the class. I like the Idea of making my own clothes I have a vey tiny waist so I have a really hard time finding pant that compensate tiny waist bigger hips. Hope to see the pic soon. sounds very cool. Linens do come in a variety some fabric store people.* Shakes head* Can I get wool at Jo annes I've seen wool synthetics but not wool yet.

They should have wool, I can't imagine why they wouldn't, especially given your climate. But some of the acrlic wools are great, and are also washable, as the robes are large it's expensive to dry clean them, so washable is good, some of the acrlics are almost impossible to tell from the real thing, and they are usually less expensive. I hate the cold, only a little less than being really to HOT! You can always put on more clothes, but you can only legally take off so much!

Synthsilk, a silk like fabric made of polyesther, feels pretty real till you wear it, it's much warmer, it doesn't breathe. I think they use a similar term in a few of the novels.

Okee, update on the costume: I have tunic, sash, tabards, lightsaber, pants and boots done. I'm going to buy the belt soon. I'm also going to make a few props non-working comlink and food capsules) soon.
One thing I'm trying to figure out.... How can I customize my costume to stand out from other similiar Jedi?
Anybody have ideas?

Well...... I can't remember...have you made a robe yet?
You could make your robe without sleeves....kinda like a long, to the floor vest with hood....one of the Jedi has one without sleeves...can't remember which...you could make your robe light instead of the usual dark brown....
you could make a second set of tabbards in an earthy green......
You could eventually make the dress like Luminara and Bariss (only you could make your's dark brown instead of black)
any of this any good?

I've already made the robe...but I like the dress idea! ;D Maybe a khaki skirt to go with the tunic and tabards, and over the pants? I don't know...that could be interesting!

Yay! I finally have some pics! The expression on my face is not the best, and in one of the pics I'm not wearing my glasses (because of the camera flash) but you can get the idea of my outfit so far....it's not done yet! lythe.netfirms.com/otherimages/jedi002.jpg - Without glasses, with a weird half-smile on my face lythe.netfirms.com/otherimages/jedi001.jpg - With glasses, head tilted oddly, another weird smile ....And note that this is before sewing tabards to sash....which I plan on doing this weekend....and before I get a new belt, before I make more stuff for the blet....yeah. ;D Enjoy.

Just finished hand-sewing the tabards to the sash....I did them Obi-Wan style, with the tabards ending at the sash in the back. It worked pretty well. Although they were very difficult to put on. ;D

I thought they might be a little difficult.... I have hesitated to attach mine for two reasons....
I live by myself and have no one to pin them in the correct position for me....maybe my neighbor...but I hate to bother her...and my sisters and brother just don't get it....both Mom and Dad have passed away....otherwise I know Mom would do it.....it is really hard to try to do the pinning on the back yourself!!
2nd....I am afraid they would make the sash pull up and then BOTH the tabbards and the sash would be all over the place...
Let me know how it stays in place.....it would be easier to have it all in one!! I discovered at Celebration II that getting dressed as a Jedi is a pain! ;D

[glow=yellow,1,3750]Hey those are good pics. well on yer way to a full outfit there. If any part of my tabards needs to be sown it's where they rest on my shoulders lol... I have such a time keeping them on my shoulders. :shrugs:: can't help it. And Shph we may have only seen for a second but yer outfit looked good. lol... and if anyone had a pain in the but time dresed as a jedi it would be Lutma.... especially after having been a blue jedi lol.... that was way to funny hehehe. her costume is still blue on the inside. I had a worse time with the storm trooper armor cause parts of it rub you the wrong way. and you cant sit down, or bend over for that matter.... how those guys managed to fall in those fight sceens is beyond me.... of coarse it was kinda fun cause i had to keep hoisting it up a little and to do that i had to grab a hold of the.... lower region... and yank up lol.... now i realize why baseball player do that.... it was acctually kinda fun... and when people realize i was female doing it it got everyone laughing.... theres good sides and bad sides to any costume...... my idea is, if you can sleep in it... it's a good costume.... [/glow]
