Hmmm...Form 3 would be easier for me, but I do lean a bit more towards 4 and 5. I took Young Olympians Karate classes for about 8 years (got my black belt 3 years ago. I dropped out shortly after, though.) and that was mostly defensive or disabling moves. But lately when I duel with my friends, I tend to overwhelm them with a bunch of quick fakes, then go in for the kill I would like to master form 7. MTFBWY

I would have to say Form 5 or 6.... But then again form 3 is very effective.....just look at how obiwan held his ground against vader's form 5 in A New Hope....
Calling a saber combatants......Attention !!!!!! I started practicing the 32 tai chi sword forms, and that is similar to form 4. When it's done at full speed. I would definitely study 3 as well. Even form 5.

[glow=blue,3,0000]Greetings, TaiLon Kae, I'm Eqin Ilis. I've also done a bit of research on the seven forms, and I'd be glad to join you in developing a saber tutorial. I'm currently practicing foil and saber fencing, and I'm also starting tennis this semester.[/glow]

Greeting All..... Bows: Phantom ...I would like to see what you have so far..... To fully understand the forms you must study the past and see how they were formed......I am also putting together a jedi database of the past and present jedi padawan's/master's....... I have 143 so far..... as well as working on my saber tutorial
Congratulations on Jauhzmynn for the winning nomination for the southern order..........
I hope to go to the assembly next year in Indy.
May the Force be with you.....Always

The style of Martial arts I sometimes practice ( TEXT) is pretty much what Yoda uses, very acrobatic. I'm a form 4. I do rolls, flips, ariels, kip ups etc the sword or saber is very fluent in the form 4 area, not meant for powerful strikes so much as a sort of spin, cut, flip, slash type area. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan use this style in TPM but they're strikes change somewhat depending on what enemy they are facing, Qui-Gon on Tatooine seems to use more of a form 5 stlikes then on Naboo where he seems to be a little more 'showy'. I perfer this as it seems to fit me more, if kids see me in the robes doing a flip with a lightsaber on the ground they have this sort of look to them and of course that's followed by 'hey it's Obi-Wan!' lol even though I dress like Anakin. My friend and mentor is a form 2. Now this doesn't mean fencing stlye as Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku uses. form 2 is meant for Lightsaber to Lightsaber battle, Dooku just uses a fencing style with the form 2 where as my mentor uses a Kendo style with form 2. Fighting syles and forms are always a bit of a shaded area, you pretty much develop your own style within the given form. and from there you create what you know as your own way of fighting. Great question

My style closely follows the japanese arts of Iado and Kendo. I've studied several forms over the years: a little of this, a little of that...whatever I encountered.
To ascribe a lightsaber form: form 2, mostly. I can empoly other styles/forms, but am strongly rooted in form 2, likened unto the japanese sword arts. My philosophy on fighting has always focused on being practical and efficient: resolving the situation with brevity and directness.

Yes, yes... I must confess! As mentioned I am indeed a great enthusiast of Form II. Kai-Rahnn has related the essence of what Form II is known for... I am just fortunate enough to have taken it up as a hobby (studying the old scrolls and holos in my spare time). Who would have imagined I would end up actually USEING a this Form... much less on our own brethren now turned against the Republic. What a regrettable thing to have prepared for. [[ I have been working at Kendo now for three years... what a braceing from of excercise... WHEW! Though I have only managed the level of third kyu, I happen to study at a very agressive and well-known Dojo, very inspireing! So many great players to learn from. ;D ]]] [[[ I would also love to try Iaido... but my Sensei say I am too fat Ah well, I merly enjoy a bit of drawing and resheething (Batto and Notto) with my two fine swords and many Bokken, and I have learned to enjoy my Kendo Kata instead (till I can loose some more weight of course)... ]]] [[[... Kendo is a wonderful way to experiance genuine combat and the building of internal character by achiveing difficult goals, and we even get to wear real armor! ;D ]]]

Sorry couldn't help responding being new to the board, I have spent the better part of the last couple of years studying the differences in forms 1-8. The forms as have been discussed here are talked about in that particular issue of Starwars insider, as well as the Visual dictionary for Episode 2, as well as wizards of the Coasts starwars rpg Heroes guide. The Heroes guide actually gives the names of the forms, not just the various technique strikes as explained in that particular issue of insider. If anyone has any questions regarding the forms feel free to e-mail my at Tracerthought@aol.com. As far as what form I would study, all forms a nice but I feel form 7 is probably the form I would chose since it represents the leanest and most effective form of all the lightsaber forms. In real life Jeetkune do borrows from all forms of martial arts form seven would be the jedi equevilant. Thought it is considered one of the most agressive of all the forms even more agressive that Form V.

Cool,
Raidahnkahn, can you list the forms names? I think that'd be pretty intersting for those around here. I'm defiantly curious.

I would say that Forms 2, 3, and 4 would be the ones I would like to master. My background is in both Olympic and SCA fencing. I also tend to take a more defensive posture during my bouts, waiting for the right moment to strike. On the SCA side of fencing, I prefer to use 2 rapiers at the same time, so the idea of using 2 sabers from Form 4 greatly intrigues me.
