...Practical or not, acceptable or not, don't do it unless you don't mind looking like a dork... I just got a real kick out of that comment... I don't think anyone in here is really worried about that

Heh a blaster holster would look weird over a Jedi tunic... of course you could just stick a covertec knob on your blaster ;D You mean like the naboo soldiers...

I've liked the look of a blaster along with a saber ever since Kyle Katarn appeared, though I've never added a blaster to my costumes, yet. I did want to add my own perspective to the thread, though; each day I leave for work I strap on a gun, along with several "less than lethal" alternatives, in order to keep peace in this galaxy not so far away. My goal is always to negotiate first and to resolve the issues I'm faced with in as peaceable means as possible, until given no other option. Of course, I don't have the Force or a lightsaber and I can't deflect anything back at someone, or mind-trick them into the back of a patrol car, etc. so the analogy isn't airtight. I just present it to say that "uncivilized" long-distance weapons don't change the character of the one wielding them, in our galaxy or the GFFA. As far as if you should add one to your costume, if your character is your own and you're not duplicating someone from the films, I'd say you're OK to carry a blaster.

Hey even in the world of costuming there're limits to how dorky you are allowed to be

Well... if they still made them, I'd point you in the direction of the plastic airsoft mausers. I got one and made a blaster similar to what you've described... But since those are very hard to come by, and you probably don't want to spend $60 to $100 for a replica mauser or a metal airsoft version, I would say check out www.realistictoyguns.com -they've got a great selection of cheap sidearms that could be made into starwarsy blasters. In fact, these look pretty close to Leia's blaster (it's the same gun, just no greeblies and a scope). Just a suggestion.

on a side note I don't get the orange tip concept. what's to keep someone from painting an orange tip on a live firing gun?

Wouldn't work in NYC. Point any gun at a cop and you're likely to get shot. Some HAVE painted their real guns and tried to get away with it.....they didn't.

The orange tip is not there to prevent people using a real gun to shoot people, its there to prevent people using a fake gun to rob someone. They put the orange tip on BB pistols because they look so realistic that someone could use them to hold up a store or bank.
