If you are portraying a specific character who's costume includes a blaster, then yes it would be appropriate.
Basically if you're a PT Jedi, there would be no reason to carry a blaster, unless you are on some sort of under-cover assignment and wearing a disguise, but then it wouldn't be your TJA costume anyway.
The OT and post OT EU (gotta love these acronyms!) is different... the Jedi order is not the same, Jedi training is not the same.

You gotta figure that, considering there are 10,000 Jedi at any one time over a span of "a thousand generations" or whatever, there were hundreds of thousands of Jedi in the Order before the Empire. Certainly one or two of them were weirdos who carried blasters. I personally wouldn't carry a blaster with my Jedi costume, as I am on the side of them being uncivilized, but if you think it looks cool, go for it!

yah i haven't seen esb in like 3 years so i forget every litttle detail. 3 YEARS !!!! Forgot!!! Can't a member be banned for a lapse like that??? Luke wasn't a Jedi yet in ESB, by ROTJ he carried only a Lightsaber (ecept for the whole Jabba/ Rancor thing).

Says you - Luke gave his old man a run for his money. Luke was a Jedi, he just wasn't prepared for the truth - that is what everyone was trying to prevent. Take the truth away, and Luke still believes that Vader murdered his father, motivation at its finest. A weapon does not make a Jedi a Jedi, the actions of the person make a Jedi a Jedi. It doesn't matter what types of weapons they carry, maybe there are Jedi who just can't fight with a saber and they need the backup and security that a blaster offers. I am not saying that it is right, but given the times a blaster might be a good idea. We know that Jedi in the NJO series carry blasters, we know from some of the PT books that Jedi carry blasters (Mace Windu comes to mind), and Obi sure looked like he had experience with that blaster when he dusted the sad puppy Like I said earlier, the early concepts and the OT show a Jedi with a blaster, to me that vision is the perfect deffinition of what a warrior should be Luke wasn't a Jedi yet in ESB, by ROTJ he carried only a Lightsaber (ecept for the whole Jabba/ Rancor thing).

I too like the "back-up" concept of having a blaster, but it really seems at odds with the Jedi mission. Blasters are distance weapons meant mainly to kill or injure from relative safety. Jedi are very relational in their dealings with others and prefer face-to-face talking, negotiating, and fighting. They use their Sabers for defense nearly all the time (even to the point of reflecting blaster fire back at the shooter as a means of defending against further shots)...at least IMHO.

Has anyone thought about how weird it'd look for a Jedi in standard Jedi garb to wear a blaster? Try it and you'll see how rediculous the holster make you look. It might look cool to hold a blaster, but you don't wanna hold it ALL THE TIME do you? If not then you'd need a holster.
I've seen my friends put on a holster for fun while wearing their standard Jedi costume and trust me it ain't pretty...
Practical or not, acceptable or not, don't do it unless you don't mind looking like a dork, or unless you costume is not a standard Jedi costume...
Note: By 'standard Jedi costume' I mean an Outer Tunic, an Inner Tunic, Tabard, Obi, Belt, Pants and Boots

Experience with a blaster? I'm sure that during the clone wars, the Jedi would have had plenty of opportunity to familiarize themselves with hand held, long range weaponry. And anyway, how hard is it to pull a trigger? With the Force behind them, their accuracy would be dead on.
And Obi-Wan didn't carry the blaster... he used it as the resource that was available to him at the time. It could have been a rock, and he would have used it just the same.

Heh a blaster holster would look weird over a Jedi tunic... of course you could just stick a covertec knob on your blaster ;D
