Very nice Holocron!
I'm thinking of making one using plastic (plexiglass), modeled after the one(s) in the Visual dictionaries. Haven't started to really think through the details, yet, though.

Thanks everyone.
I've had several ideas on further holocron projects. Some could get fairly expensive, perhaps. I'll have to check on pricing some of the components.
Plexiglass would certainly be interesting...as would a solid acrylic cube.
I'm seriously considering seeking out a cube made from either alabaster or perhaps quartz. To these I would apply brass cut out glyphs and framework. I considered gold foil (as I use for illuminated manuscripts and such) but I don't trust the durability for this purpose.
There are so many ways to go about making a holocron. A lot depends on style: ones like I just made, I would consider of an older style...more archaic. Ones seen in the visual dictionary I would consider more "modern" for the Star Wars Galaxy...newer ones made in the more recent years of the Republic...my opinion though...

Not hard to find. Might be hard to afford. I haven't priced them yet, but I've seen them from time to time in certain stores (Natural Wonders, etc.).
Acrylic would work too... but the thought of using actual crystal or stone really draws my attention...

How big should Holocrons be? Until recently I thought they were about the size of dice... but a basball case? That seems too big... is that right though, and I'm just confused?

Holocrons have been described as "palm sized". Some holocrons, The Great Holocron in the Jedi Archives on Coruscant for example, are larger. Mine measures about 2.75" square on a side. 3" would be a good size. I have repainted mine as well, hence the previous image is not showing up, so here it is "again" with the new paintjob...just went with an overall gold tone. ~Kai Rhann

Looking forward to seeing that Syn-Kai-Jinn.
On translucency...yes that would be better. It just happened that I made mine more metallic looking, similar to the Sith holocron shown in the Episode II Visual Dictionary.
Since they are described as crystaline, it may seem true that they would be clear, or at least translucent. However, not a ll crystals are clear, and some are more opaque than others. One of these days, I'll make more holocrons, and would love to do one out of alabaster or some other material, even nephrite...

I imagine that a holocron made of Tiger's eye quartz would look pretty cool. Or perhaps cut a geode into a square without breaking the interior (if possible).
