Hi Xeco, I would love to see one of those in person. I should be getting my hilts from Randomsabers soon, but since Ryan didn't have the blue blades in stock, I am waiting to see when he'll get more. Feel free to bring one on Saturday.

I don't know of any light-up lightsaber that looks good in sunlight. Certainly not an FX or a Parks; sunlight completely washes them out. Something would have to be awfully bright and power-hungry to look good in sunlight. I'd look for something with a reflective surface so you could use the sunlight to your advantage. thats a good point well in the movie ROTJ Luke's saber was made green cuz the blue didn't turn up so well against the sad but being that green is my fave color anyway ...but then again i dint even have a real saber yet so dont listin to what i say u would have more luck arm wresting a rancor then listing to what i say lol May The Force Be With You

Blades in daylight. If you are not going to duel with them acrylic. DO NOT duel with them....they will BREAK! The new carbon fiber blades are good for dueling, as they will not break [although I broke one.....long story.....defective blade] and if you cover them with reflective paper in the appropraite color you can use them in daylight, we do in class. My favorite is a wooden dowel rod covered by reflective paper and then inserted into a 3/4 polycarb tube [as in EL] the ends are sealed with silicone and a small screw is inserted into the non-business end for safety. You can beat the living heck out of these. Eventually the wooden dowel will break. When it does, buy a new dowel and repeat the process with the original polycarb tube. This is what I do.

Zhidon speaks the truth. No light-up sabers will show up in sunlight; no matter how bright. 5 watt Luxeons, Hyperdyne, nothing. If you could get them turned up enough to see they would drain the batteries in maybe 5 minutes.
Best bet is to cover a dowel or an old polycarb blade with Scotchlite or some other reflective tape so that the sun or the flash at least make the blade glow.
It's what they did for the Grambling drum major's saber baton in the Rose Parade.

I myself have a blade with reflective materials that is nice for flash-photography. While I haven't done any outside trooping lately, if I'd do one, that is what I'd use. ;D

Do you have any info on that? I didn't find that last I checked locally and they sell Krylon.
Maybe that stuff would be a lot cheaper then the 3M tape for a good ennough result. would be nice.

We used to carry it at Walmart...but I haven't seen it in my store for a while. The last place I found any was at Home Depot in with their marker paint.

The acrylic blade that I have looks good both in sun and at night with flash photography. However, it's different than what is sold in most places. It is called fluorescent green. You can see how it looks compared to MR and EL: public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/star_wars_themed/group2.htmland with a flash at night: public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/midnight_madness/6.htmlThe fluorescent colors can be ordered from A1 plastics www.a1acrylics.com/rodtubing.htm scroll to the bottom to see acrylic rods (mine is 3/4 inch). They refer to the bright colors as "neon". When I called to place a group order, the woman on the phone guessed that I was ordering it for lightsaber blades! You have to them cut them and shape (round) the tips yourself.

I was looking at them when I first bought polycarbonate blades a few years ago, but had totally forgotten about them since. Thanks for sharing the idea Master Kai, I think I have to look into it again.

Here's a couple pix from CIV. In the first I'm holding Jeffrek's Qu Rahn 5watt luxeon saber driven at 1000ma (one amp). Zhidon next to me has a 3 watt luxeon. In both you can see color all the way to the blade tip but you kinda have to squint. Keep in mind it was slightly overcast that day. In the second, it's the 5watt again, but at a more straight-on angle, and closer to the camera. In direct sunlight though? Forget about it. White-plastic-tubesville. ~ Katarn

i wonder if the colored plastic and polycarbs blades could be mixed and matched with different led's in side the blade to change blade colors?
