Sometimes my group will troop outside during the day and I was wondering... what would be the best lightsaber blade for bright daylight?
Oh and I'm not asking about EL vs. LED vs. MR. I'm thinking of either colored acrylic or painted PVC or something. I want to have an option of something that isn't just a white tube (ie - what happens to my MR blades in direct sunlight).
Anyone have any suggestions?

I myself have a blade with reflective materials that is nice for flash-photography. While I haven't done any outside trooping lately, if I'd do one, that is what I'd use.

I'm thinking about getting one of those clear acrylic blades from Randomsabers... I don't really want something that will light up, I just want something that's not going to look white...

my buddy has a couple of the blades from randomsabers... they look nice. i dunno how they photograph, though. he has blue and red... my complaint about them is that they seem heavy.

That's an idea... or you could just use painted dowels if you're not concerned with it lighting up. And with the paint, the range of colors you can do is vast.
Olos' suggestion for the reflective tape is great if you'll be doing any flash photography.

The acrylic blades do tend to make the saber top-heavy.

Olos' suggestion for the reflective tape is great if you'll be doing any flash photography. I have not yet tested them in daylight. They don't work quite good in photo studio because of multidirectional flashes, I am affraid it wouldn't work great in omnidirectional daylight. I know that daylight & electronic blade doesn't mix. The acrylic blade seams like a good way out. Problem is weight and durability - acrylic will get damaged. I use a polycarbonate tube on my reflective tape blade - maybe you could get colored polycarbonate tube?

Well I ordered a blue acrylic blade. My place in the cue at Randomsabers keeps getting closer to the top (there are only eight-ish sabers ahead of me). I wonder how heavy those are and if I've made a horrible mistake. If the blade makes the saber as heavy as a ForceFX (or maybe a little heavier), I should be fine... I don't think that I'll be dueling with this. If I do, it'd be very light and staged with pulled hits. I figure with the translucent colored blade, I'll look like a Hasbro action figure.

That will look good. I have an acrylic green blade like that... for a saber I have yet to make.

I don't know of any light-up lightsaber that looks good in sunlight. Certainly not an FX or a Parks; sunlight completely washes them out. Something would have to be awfully bright and power-hungry to look good in sunlight. I'd look for something with a reflective surface so you could use the sunlight to your advantage.

I think the white core, colored corona is the effect of taking the picture. My saber looks like that on picture, too, but not in real life. Also, I've been told the Hyperblade have 2 blind spots and suck energy like a vampire.
in any case, they surely aren't bright ennough to show in daylight. even a Neon is not bright at daylight.

Yorr,
I have 2 lucite blades. I've done some short spars with them and they're tough as all get out. If you like I can bring them on saturday, let you see how they feel. I dunno if you've gotten yours yet but... they don't seem any heavier to me than the old 02' Anakin F/X saber, but then the hilt was so chunky and heavy itself.
