Does any one know how, or have a pattern for a single piece hood for a robe? One without a seam every thing i've seen including the one i have has a seam in the center.

Can't think of one off hand, that is completely seamless, but you can do one with only a seam in the back, but not on the top. That's how I usually do them, or you can put a wide cuff at the front that will be seamless at the front, because it is a band.

Thanks Nova, That may be what I'm thinking of I'll try to alter the pattern so it only has the seam in the back

Use the same pattern you have, but fold the fabric such that the line of the seam is on the fold. Thus, no seam in the hood.

That will work to get rid of at least part of the seam, I usually do it to delete the seam on top, you still have a seam in back, however, if the hood is very full, you can pleat it into the neckline so that it is barely visible.

I just doubled the fabric...I made two hoods...and one is inside out and placed inside of the other one, then they're sewn together. so you have an outside seam on both sides. I don't know how you could make a hood without having a seam at least halfway through because of the shape of it.

When I do it, I do it on the fold, with the seam turned in and facing itself as I always line the hood. Long rectangle, folded lengthwise, trim a curve at back, open & sew both seams, re-fold so they are both inside then attach hood at neck seam. no seam at front, only in back and partway to top.

Pau - Sol - Eittoh ,
The robe hoods seen in Ep I & II are huge. To what are you referring when you say you want an "Obi-Wan look" ? Old or new Obi-Wan?
If new, what I've found is that I have to position my hood at the top of my head. It doesn't stay there very well. We are recreating costumes that might not be very functional for real world wearing.

I'm sure that the innards that you don't see in many scenes are things that either hold the hood in place, or holds the shape in a precise way. I've done some really strange things in wardrobe depts. in theatre productions to get the effect the Dir. wants, and they might not work as street wear, but they're the look that is wanted or a function is served. Is possible that the hoods are lined with a heavy felt, that is stiched to the lining before being assembled, I've used that method in Monks Cowls & hoods for several productions, not to mention Grim Reaper's hoods. It works, but it's VERY WARM. That's a the simplest solution, but there are others.

From what I've been able to see is that MAce and Anakin (for example) have lined hoods, whereas Obi-Wan has no lining. When I wear my hood up it looks like Obi-Wans in AOTC, and on my large hood it lays like the Anakin/Mace hood in the promo pics. The suggestions offered are the way I have done it and its perfect Good luck!

...I was at first going to get rid of the seam in my new wool robe when I realized that the seam may actually contribute a little to the "structure" of the hood....so I cut the wool to put the seam in....
