Here's anothe idea... locate a seamstress (a friend helps) and have them make a robe for you. I used the tutorials I found on the web and was really happy with the results (except my sleeves could be longer and have wider openings). I'm sure a decent seamstress could make on off that information. That, and it would be sized for you!
I have found many of the store-bought robes to be okay. I didn't like the way they hung on me. The arms weren't long enough and the hood was rather small. But it may work until you can find someone to make one, or until you have the credits to purchase one.
Good luck!

Some robes from Online crafters are well made. I know a man who makes excellant robes. One was a medieval clothier, antoehr was froma robemaker Calavelon purchased hsi from and Finally my own were I'd gotten froma friend off TheFOrce.net. it's pattern and color are accruate to the movies. Only the fabric weight isn't simple because wearing a woolen garment down in Florida is asking for heatstroke. <Gasp>

Question: Does anyone know if Silverleaf is still making Jedi robes? If so I would like her email address.

Zhi, I don't think that's not the best option.
It'll take forever and it might not be accurate. (Just learning to make them). let me see if Ican still get a hold of my robe maker.

thanks to you all. yes, although i have a really nice robe its made of brushed brown denim and at 10 yards weights a ton. even though its cotton its still too hot to wear except outside on a cold day. the reason i was trying to reach Silverleaf is that she said she does robes in raw silk which would be a whole lot cooler. do any of you know someone who makes lightweight robes?

Zhidon, The raw silk is fine, but a proper Jedi Robe does take a fair amount of yardage, and raw silk is not any litghter in weight than a good linen. But in answer to your question, I'm sure we can find someone who uses that fabric as well.

thanks.....i dont particularly care what the fabric is made of as long as i can wear it in california weather without having a heat stroke! a nice chocolate brown would be a good color.

[glow=red,2,300]Hail...[/glow] I have a wonderfuly hand made robe. I ended up buying a pattern from Jo Ann Fabrics, and altered the hood to make it larger. Then I put slits in the front so that I could fight with my robe closed. It's made from bargin material, and it's black. It has a WONDERFUL flow to it when I walk, but it isn't very heavy, thus if I was trapped on Hoth I'd have to resort to the Taun Taun robe. Ya know, cut the smelly thing open... blech... Perhaps in the future I will make another, probably out of heavy material. That way I can wear it when it's cold out, but considering I live in FL it doens't happen often, so I'm not in a hurry. Although... Dragon Con is only a few months away... Geo

[glow=red,2,300]OMGoodness[/glow] Sorry, I thought for sure I said my next one will be brown... I can tell that I'm getting sick... Sniffly nose, headache... lack of short term memory...
Yes my next one will be brown. I'm still fleshing out my costume in my mind. I've been wondering though, are message board members allowed to alter their avatars with personal pictures? I have a sketch of my character's face I'd like to use. And how would I go about doing that? Thank you for your wisdom Master Schph.. it's been awhile since I've been so obbsessed with message boarding.... Geo

keep a look out on ebay as i have noticed 2 sellers who offer jedi robes at around $50 made out of light weight material and not wool. the one i bought is extremely comfortable, cool and very light plus it has a oversized hood.

If you are still looking, maybe I can help, PM me. BTW, my robe is 100% Coat wool, about $22.00 a yard and I needed 8 1/2 yards to make the Robe. The Tunics and such were made from a Cotton cloth that is could possibility pass for raw silk, but it is only $2.00 a yard an Wal-Mart called Onlin (or something like that, I'll have to look at it next time I'm there. I usally buy the whole bolt when I buy it). Just for reference, in building a costume, the total cost of my current Jedi costume, is $560.00, but I’m not real happy with my boots, so that may up it to $720.00 before I’m through. And that is just materials. This much fun is not cheep ;D
