I'm just gona come out and say it-i can't make clothes. i am realy bad. I have bought a robe from a costume shop, and i like it, but it seems a little light + flimsy. Do u think that will be a problem of authenticity, seing as the robes in the movie r made of cotton/wool (i can't tell) and this 1 apears to b some lightly streachy, synthetic fiber it doesn't look synthetic, but the thin-ness is wat i'm woried about

Xavior, If you got a Rubie's Deluxe Jedi Robe, then it is 100% Polyester. I got one of those myself, but ordered a Jedi Robe from www.outerrobes.com As far as authenticity goes, it looks fine. It may not be 100% true to the past two movies, but the effect is the same. My friend Chris said I looked like an extra from AotC on Halloween when I took my nephew Trick or Treating in the local mall, and I had on the Rubie's robe. The Jedi Robe from outterobes cost $145.00 w. S&H for the medium size. Save your money and perhaps buy one from them in the future.

The fabric used to make the robes in the films is said to be wool WWII surplus British army blankets. We won't be getting any of THAT! I've made mine of light weight, 100% wool gabardine. Though it is a fine wool, it is so much fabric it isn't really all that light in weight. However, I've also made a robe of medium-heavy weight cotton and it had a good drape. I've got some dark brown heavy cotton now that only cost $2 yard.

My second robe is on the thin side as well...it can get really hot around here...it is made of a lightweight cotton/linen blend....my other robe is kinda light too..it is made of suedecloth...quetionable fabric...
If I get around to making a third...it will be much heavier....
so...go with what ya got....save up for one of those from "outerrobes"...they look good.

wwII blankets u say? as crazy as it might soung, i might just be able to do that. No british stuff, but my gandfather was in wwII and he kept a buch of that stuff, like a helmet, a tent, and a big box that says 'high explosives.' he might just have kept a blanket. I doubt i would canabilize it 4 a robe though they coulf have some similar fabric at the a/n surplus. I didn't get a rubies. mine was like $35 ;D ur right, schph, i should probably look into an outer robe next.

If I may offer a suggestion? I do repos of costumes for a living. I make the Jedi robes out of 100% wool jersey. Light enough to drape properly, and warm enough for cool weather. I handsew them, so they do cost a bit more, but my reproduction of Obi-Wan's AotC robe was $125 for a medium. Large is $135. I can also make lighter weight robes out of raw silk for the same price, and do original costume designs.

the outer robe i made is made of medium brown denium, like carhart material,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nice billowing effect, drapes perfect, but i did it, and i do not like it !but oh well the material was on a roll at a flea market, like six to 10 yards on the rolls, only ten bux, so i got that and made mine, not ten bux a yard but ten bux total for the whole roll.....................................a bargain, it covers well , for some unknown reason it's just not me........................................................, i know i am picky but, these days we have to be........

[shadow=red,left,300]Heavier fabric ain't the best idea. For the most authentic looking robe it should be raw silk or a nice wool. Ask Jade.[/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]Hmm. Denim weight=good wool weight? No. You haven't gotten GOOD wool yet. We used wool jersey for Jade and her robe weighed about the same as mine. And mine was made of cotton gauze.[/shadow]

i have never had wool for a robe yet......the denim one was my first attempt for an outer shell............i guess that's why i hate my robe, not right material, and or look ,,,,,,so it hangs on a hanger in the closet, along with my four ruined attempts at the tunics, but working again on a new one......................no robe work yet........i do have good reference sketches of jedi robes and tunics, i'd like made formyselfi found them on swag, starwarsartistguild.comthey have a kooool looking jedi outfit, sketched out for the boathian jedi character,,,,,any how, bed time...............i'll thinx on this further while in meditation...lol
