Thank you all for your explanatory responses. That was all that I was after. I wasn't trying to start a heated debate or to cause trouble. Mine was simply a question of curiosity and I am grateful for the responses that explained the perspective of the Jedi Assembly. It may be a tired discussion to the more established TJA members though I suspect that the question, or one very much like it, will be raised repeatedly as time rolls forward.

I commend and echo the feelings you stated about the Jedi in your introductory post. I was thrilled to see "the Jedi in their prime in the prime of the Jedi" (as George put it) in Episode I. It was an unfortunate mistake to assume that this group mirrored the fictional organization after which it was modelled and that it might assume the same level of acceptance as did that august body. Actually, from what I've read of Lucas's thinking about the Jedi Order, it is one of monastic values where one's ego/individuality are subserviant to the common cause. Thus, with a couple notable exceptions, they all dress relatively alike. Even that unconventional thinker, Qui-Gon, was conventional in his dress! Take a look at our photo at Dragon*Con....we want to look like a group of Jedi who just stepped out of the Temple. public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/dragoncon_2006/tja2.htmlMany of us have non-standard Jedi garb which we wear at appropriate, non-canon, events, such as Cons. You would certainly be able to wear your creation in such a setting, with the Assembly. It just can't be the costume you use for your official membership. From what I read, you've commissioned, rather than made, your Jedi garb. I understand that having more than one would get expensive. Many of us do have 3 or 4 or more, but we're the ones making them ourselves. At Dragon*Con, one needed 3 or 4 changes of Jedi garb or a lot of Fabreeze!

You are correct about my commissioned Jedi garb. I'm disabled and so I couldn't sew to save my life. LOL Taking into consideration my physical limitations, commissioned garb was the only way for me to go. My color scheme was a dream of years and so that was how I had it crafted. I can purchase additional garments to supplement my chosen ensemble, an additional $275.00 plus $33.00 (shipping) to occasionally replace my preferred colors and to gain admission to the Jedi Assembly for a grand total of $308.00. It adds up real quick. I'll have to think about it.
Tunic: $45.00 (the brown inner tunic and pants that I already possess are TJA acceptable) Obi: $25.00 Tabards: $45.00 outer robe (brown wool): $160.00
I'd continue to work with my existing seamstress as she has done absolutely beautiful and flawless work for me on both my Jedi ensemble and a wizard's robe that I also possess. My current ensemble (cloth portions only) ran me $352.00 before shipping. Add another $35.00 for the shipping costs. My belt, boots, and lightsaber are still TJA acceptable and so I won't mention those costs.

An outer robe isnt a requirement for membership, but I do commend your choice of material, cant beat wool

Though, I was thinking about trying to do one of the different robes from KotOR II this next time around...

For the sake of accuracy, a wool robe is a must. My current robe is crafted from wool even if it is charcoal grey. Cotton twill would've been cheaper but I knew that it just wouldn't be correct. My outer tunic and obi are crafted from silk while the rest of my garb is made from cotton. My seamstress couldn't obtain Khadi and so cotton was a breathable ond logical choice (the silk parts of my ensemble were necessary in order to get the sage green color that I desired). And I agree, that was a nice DragonCon picture. It even made it on the Star Wars official homepage (in the Hyperspace section).

It IS nice to have a costume of such good quality fabrics. I agree, nothing beats wool for a Jedi robe.

I've already heard back from my seamstress. She easily can and is willing to craft further garments for me. I've chosen a tunic, obi, and tabards all made of silk in an oatmeal color (something akin to an off-whitish tan). I will continue to use my brown inner tunic and pants. Can I correctly assume that this color scheme is acceptable?

The oatmeal colored outer tunic, obi and tabards when coupled with brown inner tunic and pants are definitely acceptable...and would look great....
As noted....since TJA does not require an outer robe....you don't have to be concerned about your grey outer robe....

Excellent to hear. I'll probably pick up a brown robe at some point, though. Even if it isn't required for admission to the Jedi Assembly it's still a significant part of the Jedi "look." And my seamstress crafts amazing robes (I have one robe and one cloak that she's crafted for me). I'll save it for last, though. After all, part of the fun of dresing as a Jedi is walking around with your hood up and looking mysterious.

my tunics will be grey like mace windu's were in phantom menace, with tanish brownish tabbards, is that okay. cause brown makes me look like a tree, and have already been a tree in the first grade, lol, the tannish colors make me look bigger than i am anyways. my outer robe will be a medium greyif that's okay. probably no to both bt no biggy, but remember the tunic is as different as each jedi is.

Mace WIndu';s tunics weren't grey. They were a tan. The lighting on the set made them appear greyish. Just as the lighting made Anikan's dark BROWN clothing appear black.
