Hi!
I'm Jenny or 'I Five' (from Darth Maul: Shadowhunter and the Medstar Clone Wars dualogy). I just joined TJA, my costume is Siri Tachi (from Jude Watson's 'Jedi Apprentice' & 'Jedi Quest' series). I love to read EU books!
I started at the beginning (pre Episode I) and am reading my way thru...I just finished Slave Ship (the second book of the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy). So I've read nothing beyond that....but I did cheat and read the Thrawn trilogy when Tim Zahn came to town to promote Outbound Flight.
I've now decided to jump WAY ahead and read the new Legacy of the Force series...so I can keep up with bookclub!
Is anybody else reading Betrayl? Is anyone else reading thru the entire series...if so, where are you at?
Jenny

I've started it. And its quite good. A couple of inconsistencies--like saying Zekk is younger than Jaina when he's actually about 3 older than her. But minor things. Its Allston. I loved the Wraith Squadron stuff and this isn't disappointing me so far.

This is cool! Its like a book about the kids of the heros-- Jacen Solo (duh) Ben Skywalker (Mara and Luke) Syal Antilles (daughter of Wedge) Doran Tainer (son of Kell Tainer?)

I finished it last night...
I was shocked at the way the Jedi act. I mean, jedi loosing their cool and saying "go to he##" and "I'm the jedi that's going to kick your butt"....where did this come from?
I've only read all of the old republic novels...and am used to Jedi that try to avoid conflict, and maintain their cool (or at least have a clever saying) So this was a shocker!
***************Spoiler below**************************
I was shocked too that Jacen killed in cold-blood... My guess is that he'll be the major struggle in this series...who they will be fighting.
***************end of spoilers*************************
Jenny
PS...I get the feeling that a major character will di in this 9 book series...what do you guys think?

*chock full of spoilers* *spoils Dark Nest trilogy, NJO 11 book set, and part of LotF*
hehe, the joys of being in contact with Karen Traviss... the "major struggle" is between the solos and the jedi - more generally, a war breaking out between corellians and the new republic.
as I recall from the NJO series interviews there was a guideline they had to follow: Luke can't die Leia can't die han can't die
if any main character dies it'll be one ofthe kids - jacen, jaina, ben.
jacen being heartless... you had to read the NJO and Dark Nest series' - he was trained by a (outbound flight) jedi that made him more than just a jedi - he was trained as a yuuzan vong, as a healer, an assasin - I'm suprised his head didn't burst. it comes as no suprise to me that he would kill in cold blood.
jedi acting out of place - that comes from the swarm war era too. they went with a more "unifying force" style as opposed to a "living force" - unifying being uniting dark and light as a symbiance of sorts. then at the end luke makes himself grand master jedi in order to right the mistake he made in starting the policy. that also comes as no suprise - hard to break the "dark" habit.
before I read that though I have to read: Mere Christianity - CS Lewis 000 - Karen Travis outbound flight
THEN Betrayal
then Boba Fett 4 boba 5 hyperion
wow, lot of books to read... oye...

Triple Zero...what a great book ;D...you'll love it! Thanks for the insight into Betrayal. I'm thinking that one of the 'old' characters will go out in a blaze of glory. They are getting old (Han is near 70 in this novel) and I just can't see somebody like Han dying in his sleep! It would have to be a grand exit. Perhaps we sould start a 'dead pool' as to which character will be killed off Jenny

It wouldn't surprise me if they killed off a prominent character--after what they did to Anakin Solo in the NJO (Still pissed about that one--should have been Jacen) The post-Imperial Jedi have always been--loose. I know that Yoda wanted to give the Jedi a clean slate and not be steeped in the traditions that kept them from thinking outside of the box like what happened to the OR Jedi. I also know that he, Obi and Luke didn't have much time together. But for the entire timeline after RotJ Luke has been floundering--as a Jedi and as a Leader. He knows plans and acts in combat situation. But he just doesn't have the skills or vision needed to be an effective leader, IMO. Jacen...well, I"m kinda torn on this guy. I'll start by saying that I've NEVER liked this character until the post-NJO era. In the YJK series, he was a complete wimp--always relying on his sister or Tenel-Ka to save him from whatever situation that he got into. His major force ability being talking to animals (which Dr. Dolittle could do without the Force, btw ). In the NJO he was worse. Most of the time he cowered in the corner, refusing to do anything since he might "upset the balance." Even after his whole experience with the demented chicken, he still was a wimp. Now, after having studied several other disciplines of Force users (or so they now seem to call them), he seems to have come out stronger. He can make decisions and have a clear vision of what he wants to do--finally. It almost seems like Mace's Shatterpoint ability at times in this book--he can see where things need to be done to prevent future calamity. And he acts on them. I do like this version of Jacen better, but I wonder where some of his rationalized decisons are leading him. For those who haven't read the end of the NJO, the old absolute Dark and Light aspects of the Force idea has been somewhat thrown out--its your motivation in your actions that determines if you are drawing from dark or light energy. Having been "raised" on Lucas's vision of the Force, I still have trouble accepting this rationalization as well. But that's why you are seeing Jedi killing in apparent cold blood. Betrayal, is an excellent read so far. Typical of Allston. Great dilogue. I can't tell you how many times its made me laugh or read sections to my husband. And the fact that the "children" who are now grown up have a very large role makes it enjoyable for me.

haha, another like myself who reads WAY too much. personally I didn't pay as much attention to jacen but more to jaina and her "love life" lol. demented chicken ROTFL! the odd mind link thing with the guy in swarm war trilogy is... odd. does it come up again in the next one?

They just mention that Zekk and Jania were in the 'mind link' thing and that they could still tell what each other thought.
A cute girl walked by and said 'hi' to Zek in Betrayal and he could read Jania's thoughts.... and he made some comments on being jealous not being the Jedi way to her...kinda funny!
