I've decided I'm going to make a Sarissa Jeng costume. Yippee! ;D But since you can only see her from the waist up in AOTC, I was wondering whether or not she just wears a vest-type thing that stays at tunic length or above, or more of a surcoat type of thing where it goes below her knees. Also, I've got everything I need to get started; boots, trousers, part of the tunic and a pattern, beginnings of a belt.... The only thing really holding me back is a pattern of a vest or hooded vest that could be modified. Anyone know where I could get something that would be acceptable?

Which character is Sarissa Jeng? I couldn't find him/her/it on the starwars.com website.

Well.... Sarissa Jeng is a very minor character. She's the gal who yells 'Hyahhh!' in the Geonosis arena. That's why she isn't mentioned on the OS. But she IS Canon!!! She has less than a second of screen time, but yes, she is there... What; do they have to be mentioned on the Official Site before they're considered 'canon'? I didn't see that in the guidelines. Here's a screen-cap:

Ah, well looks like a nice costume. Did she survive the battle?

I never knew her name! Yes, that would be a canon costume as long as you replicated the screen version.

Yeah, there's only one problem with the 'screen version'. We only see her from the waist up, so beyond that it would be a guessing game. Oh, well. Maybe just do a 'standard jedi' outfit below that. I've had an enormous problem finding a pattern for a hooded vest or something I could modify. Guess I'll have to make my own pattern... Now to get just a few more ref pics...Can't find many for Sarissa, but I'm doing a Google on Ki-Adi. Thanks for the support! PS: No, unfortunately, she did not survive.

Wow! In some ways, this is wonderful! My questions have been answered! In other ways.... Oh, rats. Her trousers are brown, not beige! And her boots look like a lighter brown shade of soft leather. Looks like I'm back at square one!

It's hyperspace...am I allowed to do that? The main problems I'm having are figuring out what kind of fabric I need for the surcoat and where to get it, where to get the boots or materials to make them, and what the rest of the belt looks like.

Those boots remind me of Mynn's - www.geocities.com/galaxygal_117/pics/JauhzmynnEnz-grn.jpgThe coat looks like the regular Jedi robe wool, and the Obi would probably match that. I know at least one person that might attempt to make it for you. The tunic looks like a simple undertunic, probably the same as Obi Wan's, just alot moire visible. The belt looks like the usual Jedi affair except with one noticeable difference... no button head rivets?!?! *gasp* ?!? From the loop on the smaller belt right to the pouch there isnt a rivet in sight. This might actually make the construction of the belt easier, but you'll need some mighty strong glue! Of course the buckle isnt visible (that would be too easy wouldnt it?), so this is where you will find the most trouble I think. If you hunt around you might be able to find something, but it will be unlikeley... and I dont have an immediate answer. Time to watch aotc and its features frame by frame I think! Check the starwars.com webdocs too, alot of geonosis stuff in those... the pouches are very generic though and shouldnt be hard to get your hands on. It looks like ILM also helped bring her hairline back a bit, which means that if you're really dedicated a wig and a bald cap will be the go... although I think she looks better without the Bruce Willis hairline. The lightsaber is this one; one of the generic lightsaber designs, and very achievable. Overall I think that this costume is very much possible to do, maybe even easy if you find a courageous seamstress. Good luck!

Uhh, there's a slight problem with your suggestions; 1.) I haven't been able to find wool cloth anywhere up here. I'll look again when I can, but there's no garentees. 2.) I can't watch the webdocs as I have no Hyperspace access. Don't even get me started on that. 3.) What does 'very achievable' mean? Does it mean achievable by going to the local hardward store, or achievable with the use of a metal machinists' shop? If it's the latter, than could someone please tell me where on earth a place like that is and how much it would cost? I'm sure my mom could help me alter a few patterns for the basic costume. She can make anything. Well, yeah, they do kinda look like Mynns', but they don't look nearly as 'shiny', if you know what I mean. Plus they're lighter in color. Only thing is, I want this costume done by the time the EpIII DVD comes out. Is that too *blushes* much to ask...? It's only natural for you to think this could be easy. You've had experiance; not to mention you live in the same country where they filmed part of the Prequels; so you'd have access to the same materials, right? As you can probably tell, I'm a terrible novice at all this stuff. If I'm going to take this up, I'm going to need help. A LOT of help. Not physical help, but at least someone pointing me in the right direction.

I have been unable to find wool fabric around here as well. I resorted to the internet to get it and I've had good luck on ebay and denverfabrics.com. So, that can get you the fabric. It looks like the costume designer for the SW movies really preferred silk for Jedi tunics, but you can get natural (that's the color of Jen's tunic sleeves) silk noil online for $4-5 a yard and you won't need much from that picture--basically enough for a shirt with big, long sleeves.
I used ebay for boots, searching for "brown knee boots" and "brown riding boots" plus 7 and 8 to cover the shoe sizes that work for me. know your feet before bidding. Measure the length and width of shoes that fit you. However, I was working months before CIII, so I could look around for weeks until something good and affordable came up. But I still had to take some time to break them in after I got them.
The wide and narrow belts are an average color. I don't even see any studs on it. It looks like it has loops to hold the narrower belt in place. Without knowing what the buckle is, the best thing to do is get something similar to what other Jedi have, but make it replacable if you find more pics that show what it really is.
The lightsaber......looks harder to me. It looks like if you want a complete match you'll have to get someone like randomsabers to machine it for you. Since it's all silver, you could probably do something very similar to it by modifying directions from the Big Yellow Box web site. Basically, that's making lightsabers from things you can get at Home Depot with ordinary household tools.
I think when they say "achievable" they mean that this costume does not have any beading, embroidery, alien prostetics, unusually shaped lightsabers, etc. It has plain cloth, simple pattern, plain boots and a basic silver lightsaber.
