img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/partyatheckhouse/CD2HECK-R1-039-18op.jpgHey guys, I'm a newbie to costuming, and I wanted to get some opinions on my first jedi costume. As it says in the header, I only spent about $50-$60 dollars on this, though if I didn't already have the tunic and the undershirt it would have cost a little more. I think it looks great, cosidering its low cost. Here's a list of the parts used for the costume: Tunic: A dyed karate gi (Dye, $4.00) Pants: Khakis (Already had) Boots: A pair of $1.50 thigh high boots from salvation army, and $35 half chaps. Tabbards and obi: Had a friend sew these (Fabric, $2.00 yard for two yards) Undertunic: Old mock turtleneck (Already had) Belt: The belt isn't finished, but it is a $3.00 belt from Walmart, and I'm going to make pouches and such with a yard of vinyl($6.00) Robe: Rubie's Friar Tuck costume modified into robe. (20.00) I know most of you can either sew or pay for a costume to be made, but I just wanted to share my experience for any other people who just want a decent looking costume for cheap. Any tips or comments are most welcome, and thank you for your time.

great work, especialy with keeping it cheap! I didn't even realize those boots were mock when I first looked at the picture... and for the robe, just watch the walmart bargain bin... I found some good robe fabric there for $1 a yard and it was pretty simple to make. In fact, that's about as far as my costume has gotten

Thank you for your compliments! I'm thinking on doing a variation of a robe: One without sleeves. If anyone has tried this, please tell me how it looked!
Looking at that photo again, well, it isn't a very good one, now is it? I'll upload some more in the next few days.

There are a few Jedi who wear sleeveless variations of the robe in varying lengths, go ahead and give it a try, it will also cut the cost of the amount of fabric that you need to buy for a robe, thus, being a bit more economical. For as little as you spent, the costume looks pretty good. Most of us can't afford to do a Jedi all at once, so we save toward the fabric or the pcs. that we buy, very likely, scrimping on something else, so that we get the look we're after. And for those who can sew, the process is a little cheaper, as we devote time more than money to our projects. A lot of our members couldn't sew when they joined, but are learning by doing, with an occasional stuck finger along the way, and some of them are rapidly becoming quite good at the art of seaming. Why not see if your friend who sews will help you make your next pc. ? But, any way, look forward to seeing some more pictures of the costume.

Thanks again for the good words. Got another pic, I'm still deciding on the robe. I'm not sure what color I could use. I'm finishing up my saber in the next day or so, I'm really excited about it. I'm still happy with my costume, except I really wish i had a real tunic, the gi is too short. Hopefully a robe would hide that. If any of you see robes for sale at a low price, please let me know! The cheapest I've seen was $50. img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/partyatheckhouse/costumeop.jpg

YES!!!!
The robe is almost done! I was scouring the local costume shop and found a friar tuck costume that I'm going to modify. All I have to do it open up the front. It's brown, and it only cost 20 dollars. It actually has a texture to it, which is great. I'll post pics as soon as it's done!

Excellent job.:-) You don't need a long sleeved robe, Kai Adi Mundi had a short legnth no sleeved robe. A jedi with a "Hoodie".:-D Or go long length no sleeves. That's what I'll do with my next robe sicne I live ina very humid hot area too.

Gasp! I didn't think to use a jedi name when signing up here *smacks self in the head* I am ashamed. I've tried using the jedi name-maker things, but my name just doesn't translate well into jedi Any suggestions for coming u with a proper name?

lol.... look at my Jedi name... I wouldn't ask someone with "Schph Gochi" as a Jedi name for help.... ;D ;D ;D ;D but...when you do come up with a name that you like... you can go into your profile and change your name that the public sees....your log in will still be partyatheheckhouse....

Bethany, how's that robe coming? BTW, there's a thread in here somewhere where we describe where we got our names, and I think it's a separate one that explains how we pronounce them. Mine was a name I used every time I had to enter a name for a character in a video game (Jedi Outcast, KOTOR, etc.) and it's not very far from my real name.
