So far, I'm not done. I've got the robe finished...I used a heavyish mediumish brown cloth for it. I'm not sure what kind of cloth it is; it didn't say. It was nice and cheap, from the dollar shelf at Wal-mart. I used Simplicity #9887 for the robe, making the sleeves less long and making the hodd larger. The hood almost came out too large, but it'll work. The boots are not going to be a problem, I think...I'm using my mom's. Black, a little heel, and are tall enough. The tunic is where I'm having problems. I'm kind of limited, seeing as my mom is really against buying more cloth and another pattern. For the undertunic, I'm thinking of using one of my sleevless V-neck tank tops, either blue or black. I wish one were green, because I'm Corellian, but yeah. I'm also thinking of not making an outer tunic, because like I said, I don't have more cloth or another pattern. The pants aren't going to be a problem either. Originally, when I was planning on making an outer tunic, I was going to use my khaki pants, but now I'm thinking of using some nice black ones I have, along with the black tank top. Do you think this would work/look good/be recognizable? Black pants, black tank top, brown tabards, brown sash, brown robe, black boots. Opinions and suggestions? ~Ryss ;D

After going to Celebration II....I think just about anything works!!! It was very interesting to see all the variations and color changes. And each Jedi is free to choose. Look at Luminara's clothes...very different. The Twi' lek's also dress in their native clothing.
If I ever get to the fabric store, I intend to make a black tunic, tabbards and sash to wear with my brown cloak and brown boots. I just don't want to do another robe!! That is where the serious material and patience comes in. I will, hopefully, be getting this project underway soon. This time of year is very busy for me (I am a master gardener, butterfly monitor and such stuff...so I have a lot of outdoor work to do). But when I do break out the pattern...I can try and trace the tunic and tabbard pattern....the sash I plan to copy off of Amber's Jedi Meditation Chamber. She shows a unique sash that looks like it would stay in place better...mine was always shifting all over the place...pain in the butt.

Yay! I finished my costume! I tried it on the other day, black tank top, black pants, brown tabards and sash, brown robe, and leather belt...it works! It looks great! The only thing was the tabards kept falling off my shoulders...so I'm going to safety-pin the underside to my shirt when I wear it. As for pics... I'll post them as soon as I figure out how to work our digital camera. Now all I have left is the lightsaber! ~Ryss ;D

Sounds great!!!!
The lightsaber is the best part!!
Just go to the hardware store and start looking around at all the gizmos....I made a lot of mine from used car parts....I happen to have a spare distributor drive if you get desperate ( distributor drive is what I made part of my hilt out of)..and a some other odd looking sensors and switches from a Chrysler engine....if you need them...they are yours...
Let me know.... Can't wait to see the costume!!!

I found this wonderful website detailing eight different styles of lightsabers and how to build them, complete with step-by-step pics, a list of parts, and simple directions...and best of all, the parts look normal...so I think I'm going to try to build Style 4! The website is mywebpages.comcast.net/yellowbox/bigyellowbox/index.htm - Lightsabers From The Big Yellow Box . ~Ryss ;D

What's a mirror site? That's one net term I haven't heard before.

Yes...what is a mirror site? I am hopelessly lost on a lot of the cyberspace jargon...it took me a while to figure out what "lol" means...too embarassed to ask.
And yes...neat looking sabers

A mirror site is an exact copy of another site, just at a different address, hence the term "mirror". It's very useful when the main one is down. ~Ryss ;D

I tried on the costume again today, complete with the boots and pins holding up the tabards. I also pulled my long hair back and tried making the Padawan braid, succeeding to some degree. Then I showed my family. I got an amazing reaction! My mom, who isn't a huge SW fan, thought it looked "very nice, and the boots look like they work well". My sisters thought it was "awesome! That is just cool!" And my dad...major fan, though not as major as me....that was the best. He told me I looked like I had just stepped out of the movies! And I think that's the best compliment a costumer can get! Just they wait until I make my lightsaber.... ~Ryss ;D

Stepping outside of yourself and being someone else for a while is, for me, the joy of being in costume.
My neighbor took the pictures that appear on the Members page (I was having a REALLY bad hair day and was REALLY tired so I look REALLY bad in the pictures)..anyway...my neighbor was laughing all the while...not too much for my ego!!
But I e-mailed my sister in Utah (who is not a fan) and a fanatic fan friend...and at least they said it looked like the real thing!

I told you Schph, you look great!;D I like that mass of curly red hair, too. Yes, Ryss, that is the best compliment you can get! When my robe was still in the pinned together stage, my brother and his 4 kids wanted to see it on me. They all sat down like a bunch of pests, lined up on the couch, buzzing with excitement. Being that my robe was still pinned and falling apart at will, it was hard to tell which way it went on and where the arms were. My brother taunted, "Obi-Wan would know how it goes..... " To which I replied, " Obi-Wan has a professional seamstress and the Force. All I have is Grandma!!" I eventually finished it and now when I put it on everyone's jaw drops. I just have to get going on the tunics.
