Well marathon sewing.I need a rest but can't stop until two more are done before this month ends.
I've finished several projects using a pattern for a female version of the over tunic Nova had made for me. I hope it fits my friend. Now I need to alter it enough for a Jedi tunic in a long style similar to the robes in the movie"Hero". very flowing.
Nove, the pattern rocks. Thank you for making it. The interface idea is wonderful. It's viritally cat proof.:-D
It made the tunics look and feel MUCH better on the body. Any tips on modifing it for a male, to get a similar effect as Obi Wan's? I was going to do everything the pattern says excluding the darts on the top portion of the shirt. Should I exclude the darts in the upper shirt back as well?

It looks awesome. It fits better on the upper body and flows over the hips. A lot free range of movement.

The tunic has 8 peices total. One peice from my Kimono pattern. )1 for the upper back, 1, lower skirt back, 2 front uppers and 2 front lowers, 1 for the sleeve(cut 2 of) and 1 for the neck band.)
The lower skirt back has a curved hem line and darts at the waist. They seem to be positioned about where the kidneys are and extend down 6 inches. Narrow part of the dart starts at the wasit and gets a little bigger to 1.5 inches. No bigger than that.
The front skirt has darts at it's waist same length and width as the back ones. Their position on me is about the same as the back if you were to draw a line through my kidney to corisond with the same point on the front.
The top portion of the shirt(bodice) has darts in about the same places only instead of going downwards, they extend up. Small end just under the breast getting a little bigger going down to the waist. How to measure, find the center of the breast go to just under it then start the dart. The dart is about 6 inches long. These lengths are going to be differant with the legnth of each person's torso. You might have to play with the widths and lengths to get the fit you'd like.
I don't know if I described it well, or if it's casuing confusion. Please ask questions, I'll do my best to rewrite it.

That sounds an awful lot like the tunic pattern that Leda posted in Two-Part Outer Tunic, except with darts. I'm still fond of my simple A-line pattern because it has fewer pieces and is easier to sew, but I really want to try making one in that style. I also want to try making a long, floor-length tunic with no seams at the shoulder like Obi-Wan's in ANH.
We already know that Mace's tunic is made that way. Someone only somewhere cause a pic of Mace in action with the obi slipped down low enough to show the seam.

Nova, I used cream raw silk lined with a white china silk, raw silk lined with a cream satin, Chedstnut brown with brown silk lining so far. That's true Anu-Chay, my first tunic was an A line. it was tricky doing the darts in it. As for the picture, I think Primrodo or Leda found it. I think youn ObiWan's in like that as well. It is a lotta peices but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad.

Since there's about 3 inches difference between my waist and my bust I never bother with darts unless it's something very fitted to the body or something that I wear a padded bra with. The only reason why I have a figure at all is because my hips are large compared to the rest of me; I just fake it on top. Big hips are actually my friend. The A-line is still essential for the wider hips, but the 'round skirt' version would have the same effect.

Yes, Ewan's does have a waist seam, it shows when he's floating in the energy stasis, those who know how have posted pix and links. Mynn, those colours sound yummy, will you be wearing them at DC? The tunics with waist seams are much more flattering on curvy shapes, especially in the heavier fabrics, or if you really want a close fitting tunic on the torso half, and more flow on the skirt half. The standard type which I first attempted looked so awful on me, I never wore it out of the house, I just cut the other out, and eventually sold it to a guy who really wanted it, and it looked fine on him, but he had big shoulders and a nice waist in proportion to the rest of him.

Ani Chay, very cool. That sounds like it's working out great. Major awesome.
Nove, yeah I hope to wear that to DragonCon along with three other new ones I'm constructing. I m glad your improved designs worked out and the old one worked for that gy. Win/Win all around.
