I used velcro on my first costume, and when I washed it, the side with the small hooks snagged the crinkle gauze terribly.
When I sewed the tabbards in place at the back of the waist and at the shoulders, I used large basting stitches so that I can take them out when I wash it if I really need to. So far I have had no problem washing the costume as a whole, I use a very gentle cold water cycle, and let it drip almost dry. Then I throw it in the dryer for 3 minutes, and it brings the crinkles back.
Mooglar, that's great that you got a dress form.... I would love to have one!

Primrodo's wife made my tunic set and added that with the belt I have it looks like it does in the movies.

I thought I read in passing that some use a lining in the obi? Is that a 'silk' lining like in the tunic sleeves, or an innerfacing that is stiffer and doesn't flex? The silk lining idea may have merit. I can see it adding a little "poofiness" to the obi in front. Would probably have to stitch through all layers along the centerline though so it didn't slip and roll funny under the belt.
Any ideas or experiences?

Sleeve lining is a 'china' silk. Obi isn't lined. I use twol ayers of fabric doubled over(makes four total layers), and sewen. General wear will give it the rucked up, wrinkle look. Nothing difficult. Just keep it simple.

I sew two identical pieces together and turn them. I sometimes add some iron-on interfacing.

I line it if the fabric is lt weight, but not always if it isn't.

I have never thought about lining an obi. I just wrap it around my waist twice for extra weight. The new thing that I now know about is that the obi fabric is cut on the bias, according to the Ep III pics of Anakin, Obi-Wan and Mace.

I'm glad to see that Obi-Wan obi from the back. All my tabbords & obi are attached together. Since I have shoulder prob, it makes it much easier for me to put my obi & tabbords on. I also usually have made the obi out of wide enough material to fold in 1/2 then stitch at the bottom or top depending on which side I use. I usually end up putting a hidden pouch inside the obi to carry things behind my utility belt, comes in real useful.

My tabbards are attached. They're always even that way, but the obi is separate. I just wrap it around, tie it and tuck the ties in. I usually carry things in my belt pouches, though I do have hidden pockets in the obi.

I am trying to get the tabbards and obi to NOT move, while not being attached to the tunic... for a simple mix and match reason of keeping interchangeability... I guess I'll velcro everything.

Well Anakin's tabards at the waist, and probably the obi, were snapped in place...something I have also been thinking of.

when you say snap, you mean like snap-buttons?
I was thinking velcro as to be able to add some flexibility to the garment.

I use snaps, on my tabbards, just use the same size & brand on all of them, put the female 1/2 on the shoulder and the male 1/2 on all the tabbards, could do it at the waist to, tho' I usually safety pin there.

Yeah button snaps on Anakins leather tabards were used at the waist, and velcro at the shoulder. The snaps were to keep it still presumably...

And those who got some private, hands-on at FIDM have a photo of a small string/tie at the back, at the waist line, to keep them from pulling too far apart. I've seen the photo, I just can't find that the person has it on line.
