My tunic will be brown and green. Does Osnaburg come in that color, and, if not, can you dye it?

yes Osenburg comes in a solid brown and solid green color. :-0 I've a brown under tunic and apale green one. I saw some dark green osenburg as well. Check Jo'Ann's, Wal-mark, Micheal's, Ben franklin's and even some online sites. I think Nova may knwo a few of those.

Actually, true osnaburg is a natural coloured, unbleached, undyed stuff, but, some places may carry it, or a very similar fabric that has been, dyed. Anyway, in either case, yes, osnaburg takes dye very well. Reccomend that you use a better quality dye than rit or tintex, I'll post the place that has better dyes & info on dyeing tommorow. If not possible to get better dyes, try using liquid tintex, strain it through a coffee filter. There is a tread on the Rebel Legion boards, under Jedi, it says To Dye Silk, there's quite a disscussion on dying stuff, and the place with the dyes has a link posted there. Osnaburg is about $2 a yard at Walmart.

I can now tell you how it turns out....I dyed 8 yards of Osnaberg a "dark brown".....it turned out interesting...but I wouldn't recommend it...
Mynn...where did you find dark brown Osnaberg....I found some a little darker on line...but nothing really dark brown...

I like it as is ... but making pants out of it has been a challange. Making pants out of anything has been a challange for me.

You can dye Osnaburg with coffee or tea. I've never tried it, but you probably wouldn't be able to get a really dark color, though it would be a good color for a Jedi.

Dyeing w/ coffee will drive the nearest coffee junkies mad as soon as it gets warm, at least until after you've washed it a number of times, but it rarely makes a really good dark brown. Tea makes a nice tan, w/ a reddish hue, but is usually light, doesn't smell like tea though, at least not like the coffee smells like coffee. Several hints for dyeing: 1 Wash & Rinse the fabric well. 2 Make sure the fabric is thouroughly WET when you put it in the dye, this helps with absorption. 3 The darker the shade you want, the more dye per yard you need, 2 or even 3 times the amount reccomended sometimes. 4 Leave it in longer, but stir it up alot, or it will be very uneven. 5 Rinse really well, dry it, if you want it darker, do it again from step 2. (The best way is in a big old washtub over a fire, outside, and stir a LOT, for a least a couple of hours.) I'd also wear something you really don't care about, 'cos apron or not or whatever, it will get messy.

Dennis p.s. i found this site that has green, red and blue www.jeanhansen.com/osnaburg/osnaburg.htmIt turns out evenly "mottled"....a very interesting look.... I followed all of the instructions on the Rit dye to the letter and it came out mottled...but evenly mottled.... I would not recommend osnaberg for pants....I use it for outer tunics... and Mon Jas....since you see so little of the pants...why don't you just buy a pair of Dockers or something similar....all you really see of the pants is about a foot or so........and I do like Osnaberg in the color it is naturally, but I wanted a darker brown tunic set....my old dark brown set is made of a cotton/linen blend...which I don't like....

[shadow=red,left,300] Schph,
I have been using PJs, womans strech pants, Sweat pants, etc ... The best pair I have have are a dark green, but I want to get some tan or brown, for CIII just to be Canon.
Dockers would work, but my boots are too tight to tuck them in.

Well if worst comes to worst and you got a really cheap pair of dockers you could cut em down so there's less material to try and tuck into your boots if they're that tight. Though if they're that tight I might look into a new pair of boots

I use a pair of medium tan Dockers pants for my Jedi pants. They tuck in nidely into my boots, and the tunic and robes covers the zipper, and pockets nicely as well. That way I can still carry my wallet, car keys and such in the pants pockets and leave my pouches open for other things.

I use light Docker-type pants too. Can't afford real Dockers. I am going to try to find a slightly darker color though. I definitely like the pocket space

What's funny is that Dockers are the exact pants they had used in all three prequels.LOL Check the local thrift stores for khaki dockers. They've already sharnk as much as they can and are broken in. Plus far cheaper. Now if you happen to find them on sale get 'em a size larger then what you need. They wil shrink lenght wise and in the rise part of the pant. I've a pair of petite black dockers I can't wear cuz they shrank lengthwise. I'll have to turn 'em into some costume part.
