Back in March of 2009 (see page 59 of this thread), we were contacted by Make A Wish to grant the wish of a 5 year old with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)- an very rare brain cancer. We did indeed grant Max's wish of battling Darth Maul. Max was one of our first "honorary Jedi" here at TJA. Several months later, Max passed away and because we had been such a large part of the day that he proclaimed as his "best day evah", we were asked to appear at his life celebration. We were again contacted awhile ago to become part of Max's legacy as his parents have set up a foundation in his name to raise money for research and to provide support to other parents whose children face this killer-the survival rate is less than 10%. Because of the nature of the fundraiser last night, only 4 participants were allowed...I was grateful to be one of the 4. The 4 picked were those of us who played the largest role in his first fundraiser. We started the evening posing for photos and schmoozing with the crowd at the fundraising gala. When dinner was served, we retreated to our room at the facility and waited for our "grand finale". The Midwest Garrison put up us as a prize for the auction. A party with us was one of only 4 live auction prizes. A couple from the area bid $700.00 for us to appear at a party they will set up for their son in the upcoming weeks. When the auction for our appearance started..we made our way out to the dance floor to try and entice good bidding... We found out this morning that another person came up to Max's mom and offered another $700.00 for the Foundation for us to make an appearance at a party for them...of course...we will. lastly we were asked to participate in a "flash mob" that a bunch of Max's friends and family set up. It was a truly meaningful night. At Max's first fundraiser I made him a proper Jedi robe for his battle with Darth Maul and during the event, he asked me to train him in the ways of the Jedi...my precious minute training Max will remain with me always. Mingling... Two Sith Lords....No waiting.. Girls just wanna have fun... More photos....most courtesy of our photographer for the night.. Spent 3 days last weekend at Emerald City Comic Con (Seattle). I was the only TJA member there so I was with Rebel Legion the entire time. There were no Star Wars media guests. Well, except George Takei, who I'm told voiced a character. Saw several non-member Jedi costumes and a couple were good enough that I chatted them up about membership. Next stop Norwescon this weekend. Whew! Two cons in Two weeks. Since RL isn't having a fan table, I'm not doing a TJA one there. I always used to reserve a fan table for TJA next to Rebel Legion. Photos are all here. There are 3 albums at the top from ECCC. public.fotki.com/kait/star_wars/One kinda funny one: I caption it "No bathrobe Jedi".

Whoa, that is a real bathrobe Jedi.
Aaaaaah, Norwescon. Do you know that Norwescon II was my very first convention in 1979? There were at least 8 of us sharing the Orycon party room -- not a suite, a room -- we were young and cheap then. It didn't really matter. I spent half the night in the bathroom reading copies of 'Skywalker' that were on sale in the dealers' room. I wore my Obi-Wan Kenobi costume, too, though I did not enter the masquerade.

Those are wood. Its called "cornhole" around here (hate that name). I think its a midwest thing. I just call it beanbag toss.
She painted one side Jedi, one side Sith and made the beanbags (filled with corn) out of Star wars material as well

Sometimes you just wanna go out and have a little fun with your costumes... sometimes we forget that... anyway.. yesterday a couple members of the Midwest Order went out and did a just for giggles photoshoot in a historic old park in Lockport IL called Dellwood Park It was great fun.. the weather was beautiful.. and we got some nice photos out of it too.. I would encourage any of our members who live anywhere near another member to get together and just have a little fun with their costume for a day... doesn't have to be a con or event... There are more photos here: s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa304/schphgochi/Dellwood%20Park%20photoshoot%209-23-2012/?start=all
