i was thinking the other day about a lightsaber that would deliver a small shock on contact of the skin when it hit you until i realized i could do it. Back in the 9th grade i created a shock box in electronics class. We took a 9volt battery and connected it to a lightswitch. Then made a transformer out of cooper wire, copper board pieces, and a nail. Then we connected to a circuit. In order for it to work, the blade would have to be coverd in copper or metal tape(doesn't matter as long as it conducts electricity) The circuit has two leads that would touch the tape(the tape must be slightly sperated into two pieces on the blade) the original concept was if you put your index and middle finger on the leads pressing down on the tape it would shock you in small jolts(the IC chip would click signifying a shock) So i wonder if that would work on a blade? ill try to find the schematic

though I think it could be done. It would likely be a bit unweildy and un-saber looking if I understand the idea correctly.

the thing that would change is the hilt size unless i could just get a long strip of thin copperboard and shove it down in the hilt with the transformer and battery.

...could use a copper tube for a blade insert? slightly larger diameter tube outer? a "hit" would cause both tubes to touch and complete the circut causing the jolt?
just a quick thought.....

Hey it even says in one of the jedi books about Obi-Wan as an apprentice he would use a low power lightsaber that stings on contact symbolizing defeat.

I thought you meant it would shock anyone who tried to handle it though, which might be entertaining...

Exactly. The conducting material would have to be seperated into to halves on the blade, so the only downside is it wouldn't work unless both materials came in contact with the skin.

outer tube could be perforated? skin touching the outer tube and small section of inner tube could trigger it ??

I think I know how to make it work - you'd need a dowel with exposed wires running he legnth of it, linked to each electrode, but alternating... like this:
========================== ============================ ============================ ============================ ==========================
Where the red would be the exposed positive wire, and the Green is the exposed negative wire. Then when the button is pressed and someone touchestwo wires, they'll get zapped. Like this battery powered fly swatter rackets.
Come to think of it, maybe I shouldn't be encouraging this...

Now THAT sounds do-able. Maybe use some PVC?

I keep thinking that a lightsaber that delivered any kind of shock would just irritate people, especially if it were any more than what you get from a doorknob on a cold day.

it wouldnt be cool unless you had two and made a game of it it would be completely uncool to just walk around zapping people with a shock stick like the modified xbox controllers that bybass the vibration so if you get shot instead of a vibrate you get a shock
