Mynn, if you're talking about the strip that covers the seam on the neck where the hood is attached it is a binding. A cartridge pleat is a pleat that is rounded and stiched in place, the best example I can give you is the little pleated gathers at the top of a choir robe sleeve. However when I do them on the Jedi robe, I then make them flat and stich them by machine so they aren't really cartridge pleats anymore, but do add the flow & fullness that I want.

Primrodo, I see your robe puddles on the ground like Mace's. I really really like that style. That's how mine will be.

How much sleeve should below the hands? Is it fingertip length or 2-4 inches below. Also should it be dragging on the ground or just at heal level ? I'm debating whether to shorten my sleeves because I'm 5'21/2" & I feel like I'm swimming in my robe.

I'm debating whether to shorten my sleeves because I'm 5'21/2" & I feel like I'm swimming in my robe. I'd shorten the sleeves. The sleeves on one of my robes goes just down past the wrist. A little short, but looks fine. The other has sleeves that go to the middle of the hands, around the base of the fingers. That seems to be the best length for me. Down to the fingertips might be too long. The sleeves are so wide, they don't really need to be too long. Try folding your arms in front of you with each hand hidden in the opposing sleeve. You want the sleeves to look good for that. That's the classic Jedi stance. They seem to all do that when they bow.
I think Mace Windu's robe is seen dragging on the ground and a longer robe billows better. But it's a pain to wear in a crowd because it's too easy to get stepped on. I hem mine just to the floor in bare feet, so it's just above the floor wearing boots.

I noticed Anakin's sleeve length in Ep III covered his hands completely when they were hanging by his sides. That's how long my sleeves are. Sometimes that feels a little long, but I can do the hands inside opposite sleeve pose nicely!
While trailing the ground is an accurate length, it isn't very practical. Ani-Chay has good advice.

Thanks for the help Ani-Chay Pinn. Makes a lot of sense.

I had to hem mine at least an inch off the ground...mostly because I tend to run up stairs...and jedi don't look very graceful when falling on their faces from stepping on their own robes.

Cartridge pleats are the sort of pleats that you see on graduation robes, I do a similar pleat, but when I sew it down, it looses the round shape, and lays flatter, I usually do 1 wide in verted pleat at the center back, and then a series of smaller pleats to just before the neckline ends, then sevral more pleats across the back shoulder seam almost to the arm. For a female w/ a larger cup size, I might do 1 in front about mid shoulder seam, but not to big a pleat, that is a one way pleat that goes in the direction of the armhole. More soon, closing time.

How do you guys close up your robe in front? With a button, string, hook, velcro?
What works and what doesn't? I suppose another fastener (or two) towards the middle in front would make sure it don't open up when you walk?

I have three tiny, black snaps in my wooly, dark brown robe. They're small and don't show up. I don't have any closure on the dryer-lint gray robe. It's a stiffer material and stays in place when I close it as long as I don't walk around.
Other people have concealed large snaps or hooks&eyes. The fold of the seam where the hood meets the body of the robe is a good place to hide a small closure.

I usually use a hook & eye loop set at the neck if it's wanted. I usually try to get the type that are wrapped in thread so they show less than the other type.

I have two robes- one of them has nothing to close it with, but stays closed on its own pretty well.
The other has a small snap button at the collar.
The Jedi keep their robes open almost all the time, but there are a couple of instances where they are closed- the beginning of TPM where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan enter the Trade Federation ship, and Obi-Wan in Ep III while on Utapau.
