Best features (those that make the robe most recognizable as Jedi)
1. Floor length, voluminous width, covering the entire body
2. enormous hood.
3. Wide, angel sleeves
4. Solid color with no decoration, in medium to dark brown
5. Plain, woven, medium to heavy weight fabric; wool being best (given my location in the Pacific NW)

Actually, I used only 4 yards of material for my robe. But it was 60" wide, I'm only 5'3" and I just about all of it. It has very wide hems on the bottom, sleeves and especailly the hood. I've noticed that Obi-wan has significant pleating on the back of his robe and that would use up more fabric, aside from the fact that he's just taller, too. If I had to guess, Obi-wan's robe could have used 6-10 yards of material, depending on how wide it was to start with.
I decided I didn't want a seam down the back of the robe or shoulder seams, so it's cut from one big piece, but with only a little pleating in back. It's the pleats that give it more fullness, but I'm not very big, so I get away with less.

My robe has About 8 yards of coat wool ... I was planning on using 2 Square Yards for the hood, but it is a little less than that. I found remnants for about $9.00 a yard, but if I were to re do it I have to pay $23.00 a yard today.
I was also noticing that Qui-Gon's Robe hits about his ankles

Another Jedi's robe reaches to just above the boot heel but is above the foot top in the front. . Similar to mine. Mine does have a slight'train' in back because ofthe volume fo fabric.(Eventhoughit's only 7-8 yards worth.) It does get stepped on and does create a robe puddle around me feet if I close it and bow. It's a big hit with the cat.

Yeah, I like the Mace Windu hem, it is less easy to get tripped up in, very practical. So, I shortened the front of mine, much easier to wear & trip a lot less. I use about 8 yards a robe, no back seam, lots of cartridge pleating for good fullness, HUGE hood, sleeves vary to taste.

My hoodused tobe so huge it was Darth Maul huge. It ended up pulling the over robe off me. SO it was taken in so it's a 24-26" square (don't remeber which but in the ballpark.)
Can you tell me what manner fo hem thsi is.(Desciption below)
I see my hood is attached tothe robe with aregular hem then what looks like a peice of fabric that was foled over it and sewen down.
What isa Cartiage pleat?
Paron my ignorance of this.:-) I'm learning.
