I bought my second robe from www.OuterRobes.com Theirs are identical to the ones in EPI and EPII. They are double stitched with a very large hood. I really like mine. I have altered it to make it unique, in case I leave it lying around someplace and it grows legs. They are a little more expensive, but well worth the money in my book. They now offer Youngling robes too....

Hollywood Studios Costumes (www.hollywood-costumes.com) is now having a sale up to 25% off their Star Wars stuff, including the Rubies deluxe robe.

In all honesty the Hollywood robes are nice, but they are made from a thinner material and are very light weight, so if you truely want a cannon robe, this is not it. I bought the deluxe robe and if you hang it up, you can actually see through the material. It is a loose woven material and is stretchy. A number of people have them and are happy, so I guess it is personal preference. I was a dissappointed with mine after I saw EPII and how heavy those robes were, so I investigated OuterRobes. I saved up and purchased one of theirs. Investigate all of the robe dealers out there before you buy; if you are on a limited budget. You will save yourself money. I personally have learned, you get what you pay for and I will not, again, jump into something because it is less expensive. Investigate all of your different buying options before you put money into something. Also Outerobes also puts theirs up for auction on E-Bay every so often at low bids. They had one recently there for $85.00 It is really worth the look. ( no..I am not paid to promote them...I am just very happy with their product)

I have one of those Rubie's Deluxe Jedi Robes and I'm happy with it, so far. I bought it from the local Halloween Store at a steal discount with a Jedi Tunic that Rubie's also makes. I agree that you have to careful about stretching the robe because it is 100% Polyester, which also makes it warm. I guess save up until you can buy a better Jedi Robe, and use a Rubie's Deluxe Jedi Robe in the meantime. I found a robe at www.carrollcostumes.com.

The Rubie's cotumes (which is what the ones Hollywood Costumes has) are not heavy, it is true. They are all mass-produced so you're not going to get quality. I am getting one just to get me by until I can afford a better one. Even $85 is out of my pricerange right now since I'm trying to compile a complete costume. Then I will upgrade as I go from here.

Just a suggestion...go robe-less until you can afford a good one....I have so often wasted money buying something...then having to spend more money to replace it... I am trying not to do that anymore.... ;D

You and me both,Schph...I could have outfitted a padawan for what I have wasted in gaining experience....However, my Rubies robe is going to work out very well for my LOTR Elven costume......

Do y'all here know about Phoenix textiles? store.yahoo.com/phoenixtextiles/index.htmlor fabric Store (which used to be called Linenweb)? www.fabrics-store.com/I'm very fussy about fabrics and can afford good fabric. For my prototypes, I used cheap, $1-2 fabric. However, I wanted to make my tunics out of linen and my robe of wool. About the cheapest I've been able to find dark brown 100% wool is $7/yd. I've heard of people getting lucky and finding it cheaper. I had to look for a year before I found what I wanted in the $7/yd range. Linen is often available at Phoenix and is the standard offering at Fabric Store. I've used them both for years and they are absolutely reliable.

Yep...phoenix textiles (aka fabric.com) is where I ordered the cotton/linen blend I used on my tunic and on the robe I am currently making. I also ordered some fabric for yet another tunic....but the color is pretty off...it was supposed to be "taupe"...which I thought would be a light brown...but when the material arrived, well...it looks gray to me!
Other than that....fabric.com ships fast..I usually get my stuff in two days....and they are pretty reasonable...except....look out for shipping!

Great sites. I live near the garmentr district in NYC so I just walk over, but not evreyone has that option. I'm a fan of linen weave silk, linen, cotton and wool for Jedi garb at least, but start at the level you can and go from there. Cottons and linens are fairly reasonable, and are relativly easy to work with.

emerita....if it's silk you want, then Dharma Trading is the on-line place: www.dharmatrading.com/The only available color is white and has to be dyed but silk takes dye well. They also have instructions online about how to dye as well as selling the dyes.
