Got any Building #19 stores near you ? If you don't live in New England, then you are probably wonder what I'm talking about, but that's where I got my cloth. I got lucky finding the stuff for my robe (My tunic and shirt are made of a fitted sheet!). Usually you had better like pale green felt that you can see through or purple cotton cloth with garfield printed all over it!(not much selection , you see!)

It gives you the ability to make your Jedi character a little unique...but it is not absolutely necessary that you take up sewing. If you can find something you like that is ready made...go for it! I just wanted to try and do my own so it would be exactly what I wanted...my first light colored version was ok....the second dark one turned out much better (after I learned from my mistakes)...it just depends on each individual..

How authentic are the Rubies robes? There is another site out there on the 'net that will not allow Rubies costumes as part of its membership.

The Rebel Legion, I assume you're speaking of. There is indeed a reason....Rubies are known for low-quality Halloween costumes, and the Rebel Legion wants actual costumers, not people who simply buy a cheapo outfit for Halloween then pack it up in a box. However, this doesn't mean you can't buy parts of your costume...

I picked up a Rubie's Jedi Robe around Halloween and it is made of 100% Polyester. I looked at the Rubie's Jedi outfits and they did look cheap.

I know Rubies costumes are poor quality -- sometimes even printed on (especially kids' costumes) but I was really wondering if the deluxe robe is good enough for now. I am on an extremely limited budget. I now have ordered my tunic have my belt and boots and am finishing up my lightsaber. I got everything so far for about $135 total including shipping for some items. (I have been scouting ebay and have comeup with some good ideas).

The Rubies robe that is called Deluxe is pretty passable, it's made on a fuller cut and and has a textured fabric, the standard robe is pretty funky.

Jedimom....out of curiosity....where did you order a tunic from? I have seen sites that sell boots, robes, and belts...but not tunics.....

Carroll Costumes (www.carrollcostumes.com) The jedi tunic is under sci fi. They actually sell them $20 cheaper on ebay which is where I oredered mine from. Looked decent from the photos. I've been checking others out for about 6 weeks now and liked his the best. There are a couple others on ebay also, but for a lot more money

thanks...very interesting.....I will have to check it out...
I did get a nice surprise today...I had bought a cotton/linen blend fabric on-line a couple months ago...I had bought two kinds actually....one of them I used immediatly on my dark brown tunic...the other was a medium brown and a little lighter weight cotton/linen blend. I had wanted to re-do my robe too...my original robe looks fine ..but it is made from a polyester fabric that I bought years ago, before I knew anything about fabric...anyway... I broke out that second bolt of fabric, and lo and behold...there was enough of it to cut a new robe out! So I will get my chance to make my new robe.
Now, I still have to buy fabric to re-make my light colored tunic....
sigh... we are never, ever done!
