I was walking through a mall near me, and stopped by one of those seasonal Halloween shops. It turns out that they had the Rubies adult Jedi robe in stock. It retails for about $50.
If you're working in a set budget, this might be a good choice for you. My robe is one of these, and it's got a nice texture to it. It's definitely superior in quality to the EPISODE I era Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn costumes (which I also have).

I know the one you mean, they did a better job on the EPII costumes than they did on the EPI"s "cos rumor had it from my old workmates there that Lucasfilm almost yanked the stuff out of the store with the EPI line, 'cos it wasn't like the samples that were approved. Anyway, if you can't find them at a mall, we sell them at the store where I work, and I get a 20% discount, we sell them for $59.99 But we have a REALLY nice heavy weight dark brown cotton robe for the same price, it's open down the front also & has a bigger hood, it has a shoulder capelet pc. that has to be cut off, but that's very simple, it can be done, even without removing the hood.

Above ROBE is also LONG enough for the TALL people! But us SHORTIES can hem it. Long enuff for up to about 6'4" would be a bit off the floor at that length.

This was at the Nanuet Mall. I might want to investigate the robe you're talking about, Nova.

Hmmmmmmm I will have to check that out also....I like my robe, but would like one in a different fabric and one with a bigger hood.... Does Rubies have a web-site...maybe I could find a local retailer that stocks their product.

just an fyi... checked out Rubies....they have a website, but there is nothing for sale on it. They do indicate which stores they have their product in...Wal Mart, K-Mart, Target etc. I went to the local Target today....they have Rubies costumes, but it is all the low end stuff....no robes...

I got mine from on-line at Hollywood costumes too. I ordered the Delux Jedi robe. It is light and very breathable fabric and imitates the Indian Homespun. It is very well made and you can't beat the price. I am planning on adding my own touches to it later, just to make it unique. I recomend it.... schph. Go to the site hollywood-costumes.com/ Scroll down to SW Ep.II costumes....The two robes are nice. The delux is better material than the standard, but that is my personal preference. When you buy it , the company is always accessible through e-mail. I talked with them and asked questions and they kept me updated.

The standard robe is 70 denier brown polyester knit, and the cut is pretty skimpy! I was designing at RUBIES when they were done and worked on that line. The Deluxe is pretty good and runs much better in size.

Here's another of my 2 cents... if I'm shootin' for low budget, I'll scope out my local Wal-Mart fabrics dept. and what ever they may have on $1 or $2 tables that is of a natural fabric (wool, linen, flannel cotton) and of a decent weight,I'll grab it up (sometimes by the entire bolt, depending on the price/qty). So you can do a tunic for...say...$5-$10,a robe for like$10-$15, and much more authentic.Although mat'l for robes is much harder to find, inexpensively.

The material for any of it is easily accessible. The 1 or 2 dollar stuff at wal mart unfortunatel I have discovered are old and the weave is loose. The reason it is cheap is cause it dies quick. Believe me. We used to shop there for material for orders.

I think it depends which Wal-mart you go to. All of the fabric I've used for my costumes has come off the $1 and $2 shelf, and believe me, it's a great deal.

I agree with Ryss. I don't think you really need to buy any of your stuff pre-made... You can just make it!
