I noticed two things when I went again tonight...
1. Doesn't Palpatine like to cackle a lot after he achieves his "new" look?
2. Don't the lightsabers in this film seem a little pointier?

The lightsabers do look pointy- no idea why George approved that. Personally I like the rounded tip look.

Kinda silly for him to change the lightsaber blade when ALL the other movies are consistent...

Pointy tips? I didn't notice. Mace's and Kit Fisto's blades were nicely tapered in the scene in where they enter Palpatine's office. I thought it look right. Really I think what you are seeing is the blade angle. If you look for it in AotC in the battle with Dooku you'll see it too... that is, whenever you can see the tip of the blade in the shot. Quite often the "pointy tip" is offscreen. Maybe they took some time between the movies to polish their crystals...

Never noticed it before this film - look at Anakin's saber when Palpatine reveals himself This post is beginning to sound strange

What I find interesting is that the pointy tips are only in the movie... in all the promo shots the tips have a more classic rounded edge.

I didn't really notice the lightsabers being too pointy in Ep III.....it makes me wonder how much adjustment you can have on your lightsaber blade. Aside from the on-off switch, I wonder what the other knobs can do?

I suppose it depends on how EU you go - in Splinter of the Mind's Eye, Luke adjusts the blade length and width to that of a pen knife to jimmy a door.
In I, Jedi (I believe), Corran Horn's saber had two settings, normal and friggin huge!
In Yoda, Dark Rendezvous, power output was adjustable so the saber wouldn't cut but burn instead....
