Did he, or did he not have an apprentice before Xanatos? I have heard he did and that he didn't. Does anyone know? And what was his name?

I think, given his age, he probably had at least one before Xanatos, there isn't that long a gap between he and Obi Wan, a few years, I belive I remember Xanatos only being about 19 or 20, and only a bit older than Obi Wan, who is 13 at the start of the series. But if there were say a gap of 5 or 6 years, + say 5 or 6 years w/Xanatos as a Padawan, say Qui Gonn was 22 when he passed his trials, that still leaves around 20 years as a Jedi Knight where he could have trained at least 1 if not 2 Padawans.

I've always heard that Qui-Gon had another apprentice before Xanatos, but no one knows who he was. And I visited the link... where did it say Qui-Gon only had one before Obi-Wan?

It says so somewhere in the one of the first 2 or 3 Jedi Apprentice books. Forget exactly where. It looks like the story got a little screwed up. Just an inconsistancy I guess. Here's where it hints at that in the above link:
"Though Qui-Gon defeated Xanatos, he could not bear to kill his own Padawan. The defeated student fled and Qui-Gon obsessed over his failure for years, dismissing his earlier successes as a teacher and often referring to Xanatos as his "first" apprentice."

Um... Xana... you missed something.
"Though Qui-Gon defeated Xanatos, he could not bear to kill his own Padawan. The defeated student fled and Qui-Gon obsessed over his failure for years, dismissing his earlier successes as a teacher and often referring to Xanatos as his "first" apprentice."
So he had "earlier successes as a teacher", which I took to mean an earlier apprentice. I guess he was just so upset he didn't care about that one. Maybe he thought he/she was too easy to train, so he/she didn't count as an apprentice. And the reason I underlined "first" was to draw attention to the fact that they used quotation marks. That usually means that the word in question isn't actually true. Hope this helps.

I've never found it in the books. And on the starwars.com mbs, no one knows his name. I guess the author thought that was too much detail. ::sigh::
PS Can you tell I've researched this before? LOL

You're welcome! Reading Joseph Campbell, I see, huh? Lots of SW references you will find in his books. After all, that's who helped Goerge on the Original Trilogy.;D

I think I finally have the answer to this one...
Chapter 11 of Jedi Apprentice #15 .."The Death of Hope"..
This chapter indicates that Xanatos was Qui-Gon's first apprentice...
