I try to get things done one thing at a time and not worry about the pile of other things waiting to be done. Getting at least one thingg done still feels good.
I might end up going to the Pensic War next year. It's sort of one of those things I've meant to do and I've got some friends in Connecticut (who are much more into the SCA than I) who've been meaning to go for a long time as well. But it's still undecided for now.

Oh, wow, Pennsic. I've been 3 times, but not since ?1987. The last time it was too huge and now it's much over 10,000 people! It IS an experience. I always found the heat and humidity a challenge, but you should be accustomed to it! I even wrote a "how to" hand out as we went twice from Germany and once from California, so how to go from a distance. Don't know whether any of it would still be accurate. What was so great about it was meeting all the people I'd heard about... Drachenwald was East Kingdom then and so we knew the names of a lot of Easterners.... and then the former Drachenwalders who had transferred out back to the USA.

Pennsic War is now held in July instead of August the six times I went to War. I stopped going to Pennsic because there were too many people attending. It was 15,000+, I think. The weather also steadily climbed from the 80's into the 90's and became too hot over those six times I attended. I hope you're used to living in a tent, used to heat from being in an open field, and can walk everywhere. One Pennsic i walked so much that I had blisters on my feet and the Paramedics told me that I had to go home early (but only by one day).

Today I'm home... no black friday escapades for me... so I'm going to attempt to clean my work room... it's amazing how much random stuff finds its way in and has no place that it should go! Piles everywhere! Maybe I'll just start with organizing the sewing chest. I know the feeling! We haven't had a sewing/craft room in 11 years, so everything is stashed in various places, and we can never remember where it is! We know have the sewing corner. In the kitchen. Plus, we tried to cram a four bedroom house into a two bedroom house, there is only so many places to put stuff! So much stuff now doesn't have a place to go. And I'm glad to hear you and your family are home safe.

It's still not a sure thing that my friends will be going to Pensic, but if they do, I'll go. My friends would be going to classes and I'd love to see what they have. One can always do something with new costuming ideas and techniques. And even if it's 18,000 people or more, it's still probably smaller than DragonCon, which I'm also going. But I'm pretty sure we won't be there for more than a week. The whole idea started when I decided to make a gothic gown for CostumeCon. Lots of hand sewing. <sigh> At least fashionfabricsclub has some historically acceptable light blue linen on sale for $5/yard.

The only thing I could be if I ever went to something like Pennsic is a ratty looking wench! Buy the end of the week the costume (and me) would look the part!

Well, after sticker shock at the thread store today, 2 small spools of metallic machine embroidery thread were $9.00, I went on ebay and got 78 spools of same brand & size in several colours for a total of $31.50! Then I found "solar active" thread, it changes from white to other colours in the sun, and also "glow in the dark" thread. Having some neat "Buning Man" costume thoughts for those threads. Meanwhile, I've been working on figuring out the programing on the embroidery machine, not as hard as I thought it would be, I'm working my way thru the built in designs, and trying to work out the manipulations I can do to them. I got an upgrade program for the machine today, I'm going to install it tomorrow, or friday. Went and saw "Skyfall" monday, that was fun. Tomorrow we're going to see "Lincoln", I'm so looking forward to seeing the costumes, if the trailers are anything to go by, I'll be drooling all through the film.

I guess I should feel honored that Jordan called a Star Wars collector on "Toy Hunter" a real "Jedi Mom"...
Or offended...
Not sure which

Wow, that thread sounds cool!
The house has been smelling like cookies for three days...mmm....and Mom's not done baking yet! She's planning on making her Pfeffernusse (German molasses cookies rolled in powdered sugar) and Stollen later this month. Hopefully there'll be enough flour, sugar, and molasses left so I can make gingerbread men again. Maybe this year I can actually decorate them...

Love peffernusse, my holiday splurge, a friend and I used to make them with her Polish grandmother.
The solar thread is neat, I have 4 colours, they all look white, until you go in the sun, then they change colour.
Tomorrow, I'm going to the LOTR marathon, starts at 11am, is 131/2 hrs. I plan to dress comfy.
