Can anybody tell me how wide the sash should be? I've got 1 but it feels really too wide. I'm making 2 more costumes & I'd like to be a bit more correct with the sash width.
also: How wide should the collars be--the part that goes around the neck & down? inner tunic outer tunic the movie ones look like they are over 2" wide

I'd say the widths are a matter of scale for the person. Being 6ft, the collars on my under tunic and tunic are 1.5 and 2 inches respectively. A traditional Japanese obi is supposed to be 40 cm wide and 4 meters long, but again, it all depends on the person and their body shape

On my collars, I went with 1.5 inches and 1 inch - outer and inner collars respectively.
My obi is 6 inches wide...
I did this more for stylistic reasons than accuracy

My inner and outer collar bands vary from about 11/4 inch to about 21/2 inch on either, depending on how much fabric I had to cut bias from and how wide I thought would look good. I usually go about 6inches wide on the obi, but somtimes do 5, depends on who's wearing it, how much fabric I have, how wide the belt is that it's being worn with, mine is wider than the standard belt, so I usually use a wide obi, which is just the straight strip version w/ a velcro closing. The obi w/ the wrap & tie that you see w/ some patterns really needs a buttonhole to pass the tie thru so that it lies flat.

Width of the obi can depend on the width of your belt. I go for at least 1.5 to 2.5 inches wider, on either side of the belt, so that's a total of 3 to 5 inches wider. In general the obi on either side of the belt is about, or a little less than, the width of the belt in the middle.

Ah, but you're tall! I'm short.
One thing I noticed in ROTS is that the obi can sometimes curl around the belt a bit, especially if they've been moving around a lot. I don't remember seeing it so much in the first two movies. Even though it is in the movie, that would annoy me, so I try to prevent it by going with the minimum width to look right for the costume.

the obi and belt have had a number of different looks throughout the movies... Somtimes its wrinkled over, sometimes its pulled up flat against the stomach, which gives it lots of head room. Usually when its wrinkled over its just folded and doesnt really cover the belt.

I use a double thickness of nonwoven interlining in the obi, helps prevent wrikle & fold. I think my own obi's are about 6- 7-8 inches wide as well, they vary as much as my neckbands do, (I like variety) as I said, my belt is wider than standard, but the wide obi makes a nice defined midsection of my torso, or lack there of, most of my ht. is in my legs, I've got no torso.

My Obis are about 6 inches wide and are four layers of fabric. They'll curl a little but it looks more realistic. My neck band(Border) I think that's about 2 inches wide. I have to measure. I'm also still working on tweeking it so it looks right.
