Hello all, I've been planning to make a jedi costume for quite some time, seeing as i'm about to reach my major weight loss goal I thought now would be a good time to do it to celebrate.
anyway my questions are these.
I'm picked up the simpliciy pattern number 4450 and am planning to use it for the tunic and obi.
Other than making the hood for the robe pattern alot bigger, does anyone else have any suggestions for making it more accurate?
and my second question is this
I've got the mccalls pattern number 2940 that i've used before for underlayers in garb. if i modify the pattern to make the sleaves fit a bit better and make them a bit longer, will this work well for an undertunic or is there a pattern that would work better?
Thank you in advance and for taking the time to read this, any help would be appreciated.

dont know much about working from actual patterns but if you live somewhere where it tends to get hot i wouldnt make a real under tunic, its much easier to make a neckline and sleeves because that is all you see

The new Simplicity Pattern 4450 is totally odd... I recently cut apart the pattern pieces...and the tunic back piece is totally straight....as in no curve for the armpit...
I am going to reserve judgement on this pattern until I can make a mock-up out of muslin....
I used an old McCalls pattern called "Space Nomads" from 1999 to make all of my undertunics....I love that pattern. I make the sleeves super long and super tight then "bunch up" the sleeves at the wrist and forearm for the look that Obi-Wan had...

Thanks for all the helpful feedback.
I do have some replies I'd like to make in answer to a few comments.

I'm not too worried about this. It does get a bit warm here, but at the same time it gets really cold. The hot season is just about over, I may make the sleeves and dickie though later for next summer.
Is it an authenticity problem? I've done samurai garb, and the tunic pattern is pretty similar to traditional Japanese stuff with the straight lines. I've used modern patterns but have always preferred the straight lines.
If it is an authenticity problem, can I mark it off as one of those personal variations? I wasn't aiming to replicate any specific costume, though I do like Obi-Wan's look the best.
thank you. I apologize if I'm being a bit of a nuisance

No, not an authnenticity problem that I know of, I think it might sit off the shoulder a bit, but again no real problem, or that can easily be changed to the famous Obi Wan Tuck. I think it is most likely very much like a Japanese kimono pattern in the sleeve, but haven't had time to pick these up yet, so can't say that for certain.

[glow=blue,2,300]the pattern depends on what tunic if your going by the movie theres only one pattern and thats the jedi robe pattern however if your going for a more old republic look (which I would suggest) there are 5 different patterns depending on your jedi standing(aka jedi, jedi knight, jedi master, force adept, and jedi grand master) there are also robes for the consulars[/glow]

;D I gasped at the bathrobe recommendation and they laughed with how quickly it was jumped on. We will forgive Raikoh's momentary loss of orientation (not oriented to place...bathrobe Jedi costume at TJA!?!).
