I was going to start a new thread but thought it might be better here. Ive been planning to go with a homespun type of fabric, but, then I saw a close up of Obi's sleeve over at padawansguide, now, this is not homespun, im not even sure its cotton. I know, I saw this at CIII. It is likely custom woven fabric. Rumor hath it it is khadi, a homespun (cotton or wool) of India.
Maybe when THE BOOK comes out we will learn exactly what it is and where they got it.

I've just bought some nautical knit for my new tunic, tabards and obi. I got the impression from my visual dictionaries that the fabric used in the actual costumes was a knit fabric. At least for Obi and Ani.

Now I'm curious....what is nautical knit? Cotton? Does it have much texture? Stretch?

Nautical knit is a knit fabric and it stretches a bit. It has been knitted obviously but isn't thick.

I don't know for sure. I'd say a thin wool.

As you're in N.Z. i'd guess wool is more common there than it generally is here. I've never encountered Nautical Knit either, is it expensive? What colour is it? Is it possible you could post a close up picture of a piece, we'd love to see it, we're very curious about it, thanks.
