Well I managed to line my new tunic with a really soft and thin kind of silk that I found in NYC. I just LOVE the way this tunic came out, it's cool, and ultra comfortable, and it wears and hangs better than any of my previous attempts! It withstood the Dragon-Con test and passed! new costumeCould it be that I'm finally satisfied with my Jedi costume? Maybe... but there's still another on deck!

It looks very Obi-Wan. Very nice. What is the outer fabric made of?
How many days did you wear it at DragonCon? Were you outside much?

I wore it for 3 days and it really breathes well. I was outside in the hot sun for quite a while during the Rebel Legion pictures and all that got damp was around the waist where I wore the obi and the belt. I did sweat alot during that time, but it seemed to evaporate well. The fabric didn't stay too wet. I think the fact that the lining is only sewed to the garment at the seams, and not at the hems helps with air circulation. Mynn that pic if you in your silk costume is excellent!

Thanks Leda and Mon-Jas. I've a ways to go before it loosk right. As of now, it looks a little too big on me.
You'er right Leda, the lining being sewen at the seams inside the garment does help with the cooling factors. I'm going to try your half shirt under tunci idea. It'll work well for the Florida heat. Or shall I go for a silk undertunic instead?

Yes, the Jedi costume looks good. It would probably be easier to try the half-tunic first and see how it works before going for the silk undertunic.
It's strange, even though I live in Florida, I've never had a problem with the costume being too warm with an undertunic. It must be because I always wear long sleeves all the time anyway.
Wow, somebody did a Space Ghost at DragonCon. That brings back Saturday morning memories, but I've never been able to look at him the same since he got that talk show.

I DO have a fully reversable under tunic of two differant fabrics. White Crinkle cotton on one side with the regular collar band like in Episode one, and a white silk side with Obi Wan's ROTS type collar band. It looks nice, hangs well and feels real nice no matter which side is out. It actually lays like I'd seen on screen, maybe better. The cats LOVE it. I was cooler in that tunic then in the regulqr ones. Maybe the cottom/silk combination is a winner? What do you other Floridans think? And Leda's just plain looks better and beter each time I see it.

My Obi Wan costume is lined with a parachute-type material, it looks like silk and it breathes very well, I never get hot in it, even with the long sleeves of the undertunic.

Wow... what kind of fabric is that? Is it thick? I guess is has to be lightweight! I've never seen a real parachute, only hot air balloons. The project I'm working on now is a long sleeved undertunic... that is, no fake sleeves! Winter is coming....

Do you have a good dress shirt pattern Leda?
Seda, that's a nice tunic. You outter fabric looks like that homespun stuff. if it's not it sure LOOKS like it. Great job on it all.

Leda; the material I'm talking about is the same as the lining for those dorky 80's tracksuits, referred to as "parachute pants". I didnt really clarify that Thanks heaps Mynn, the material is actually just crinkle cotton, the lining helps it look thick (lining is essential for a crinkle cotton tunic to look right IMO)

It sounds like a really nice combination. I assume that this is a smooth, thin silk? Or is it a rough silk noir? I was just going to try the rougher, off-white silk as an undertunic (well, it was on sale at Thai Silks) next. My theory is that it's the silk that's more important for it to be cool to wear, but I won't know until I try it out. I do have a white, crinkle cotton undertunic that I improvised from a remnant. I just doubled the fabric at the collar and the ends of the sleeves; the rest of it is the usual cotton thinness, but since it's covered up by the tunic that doesn't matter. I DO have a fully reversable under tunic of two differant fabrics. White Crinkle cotton on one side with the regular collar band like in Episode one, and a white silk side with Obi Wan's ROTS type collar band. ....
