I need some help. I need to know if any of you can direct me to some patterns or tell me how to make the leather looking piece of this costume. It seems to be some sort of tunic/coat combination. I am speciffically interested in the look of the sholders and the split below the belt. The reason I say it might be some sort of coat is that from the pic it looks like the back is a solid piece. I know you guys and gals are Light side affiliated only and that this is technically Dark side garb, but input of any kind would be GREATLY appreciated. You can buy leather online, but it's always best to look at in person. What do you want to do with the leather. Belt? Pouches? Tabbards? Are there any fabric or leather stores in your area? The faux-leather that I've seen at Jo-Ann Fabrics is very nice these days.

Tabbards mostly and the reason i dont go for the real leather is that this is gonna be for a fanfilm and i dont want to spend to much on leather that is gonna get basically distroyed and thanks for the Jo-Ann idea

I found the faux-leather for my tabbards at Jo-Ann Fabrics and it looks great. Just be sure to use something like snaps or Velcro to secure the tabbards to your outer tunic. Mine kept slipping off of my shoulders and I ended up using snaps to secure them.

Primrodo has the best pattern design for the Anakin tabbards, they aren't actually a straight pc as I recall seeing it, but are seamed at the shoulders & I think the waist. You can see the shoulder seams, the waist seams are under the obi. If you look at the photo, they don't go in a straight line, they go in from the shoulder to the waist, and then out from the waist to the hem.

Quick question... why is it called a tabbard when it's more like two sashes held by a obi?

Quick question... why is it called a tabbard when it's more like two sashes held by a obi? I assume because nobody could think of anything better to call them? They're not a separate piece of clothing, just big, long fabric. But they're worn like a tabard (which is one piece of clothing) would be. And since they're obviously two of them, they have to be plural. The tabards on my costumes are attached to each other, front and back, at a very small place that is hidden under the obi. It makes them much easier to put on with no worries about getting them even. I like to think that Jedi would do the same thing since it would significantly simplify getting dressed in the morning. Technically, this makes them one piece of clothing, but since they look like two separate pieces when worn, they get pluralized.
I suppose a Jedi, looking at a big pile of Jedi laundry, would pick them out as sashes if they were separate, or fold them as one piece, if they were connected. But they would look the same when worn, so they get the same name. Sashs are generally worn around the waist or over the shoulder, across the body, so that term is similarly problematic. It would have solved many problems if Lucas had named them. I wonder what the costume designer calls them? I look forward to the SW costume book coming out in September. We may need to rethink our terminology, depending on what's in it.
To further confuse things, we can wonder what old Obi-Wan had on in ANH. It really does look like one long sash around his neck and hanging down, unevenly under his obi. His outfit in TPM and ROTS also had tabards that ended at the obi in back with no back tails. And I don't know what Luke had on in ROTJ, though it could genuinely be called a tabard. It was clearly one piece, worn over his clothes.
