I'll check around, if there is none to be found I'll let you know, or give you my sterling advice. PM me with your chest & waist measurements, this will help in the search. Nova

You are of nearly equal size to my husband. I just get the largest commercially available pattern and then alter it.
I do so by making a new pattern our of cheap, interfacing-like fabric. I measure him and determine how much bigger than the commercial pattern I need to make it. I then draw it out, using the commercial pattern as a guide but adding the extra inches.
I've not found the pattern equivalent of men's XXXL Tall but I'll be very interested if Nova finds a source!
For loosely fitting garments like Jedi tunics (and early period SCA tunics) this works fine.

If you try this method, I find that Simplicity patterns have a tendency to run pretty large & are usually the easiest to work with due to the shapes of the pattern slopers they are generally not as structured as say a Vogue pattern so they are less work to alter, also, they have very large seam allowances, which can be made at half that width and that will add inches if you do that at every seam join. I am looking into the bigger pattern resourses, as I have a couple of guy custom clients that are xxxxxxL's (one has a 76 inch waist) and they might be useful.

Update, I have checked several sites so far, several claim to have plus to xxxxxl patterns, but so far, have only found a few, and they are almost all women's, I am continuing the search, and am trying a few other ways to find them.

Hmmmm, maybe I should start a line of xxxxxl patterns, as a business venture. Well, I draft as needed. Have had no real luck in the searh for multi xl patterns. I shall continue the hunt.

Hi Nova, I've a question on Large patterns. I'm helping a friend work on a costume for a large male. Since I've only seen a picture and have rudamentry measurments, I need a little help figuring an approximate size.
He's 6'4" 48" around the chest and hips, 44" around the waist.
Big guy. What size of pattern would he fit into? 2 or 3 X? I've other measurments but some seem a tad 'off'. He might be measuring himself wrong.
Aother thing, he's not close by to do measurments ourselves, nor for fittings. ZRissa and I are basically doing this cold. WHa tadvice do you have about an approximate size, and any other advice.

That's about my husband's size. xxxlarge-tall
Do you know anyone locally about that size who could stand in for approximations?
I've made a couple costumes from afar and just left the hem and sleeves unfinished so the person can get the right length.

A stand in would be good, but unfortutatly there is noone here that comes clsoe to Jon's size. I don't want to risk sizing the garments on several differant bodies. My gut says it won't work. So I'll resort to asking him to send me a pair of slacks and a long sleeved dress shirt that fit him correctly and work from those.

Yes, that should be a good start. I have a couple of guys that I do that are that size or larger, one has a 76 inch waist. Most of the problems are with proportion, but, he's tall as well as large, which is easier than just large, I usually find that I have to remember to enlarge curve of the arm-scythes especially in the front and back, as opposed to the depth, so they don't cut in. Usually you need to add some depth to the trouser rise in front & back as well, but that also depends on wether thay are Muscular Big or Heavy Big, body biulder types don't add as much to the rise as rounder body types.

That's a good tip Nova. It's something I didn't think of, I'll keep that in the forefront of my mind while dealing with the pants and Tunics.
